Here is the real story

Click the link to read the whole story about Erich "Mancow" Muller and his fake water boarding stunt. If I had to choose sides between Olbermann and Gawker, it would be Gawker for sure - on any issue.

He wasn't subjected to anything close to the conditions that actual waterboarding victims suffer, or, for that matter, that journalists like Christopher Hitchens who undertook the procedure suffered. He decided to get waterboarded, so he asked his publicist to find someone who knew nothing about it to look it up on the internet and do it to him. We say it all adds up to a fake—either by orchestration or half-assed laziness. The only reason that Olbermann—or anyone else for that matter—could come to a different conclusion is ideological fervor. This, according to Olbermann, is "changing the debate" on torture.

Lindsay Lohan Photos & Pics | Wait, Lindsay Has A Weight Problem?

Sounds like someone is taking an interest in Lindsay's health, if only for their own reasons. X17 reports that producers are making her take drug tests, keep a curfew and weight herself to keep a healthy weight.

How do you not know these things.

Really, how does someone get a job in a news paper and not understand what this ad was trying to say?

This little report is interesting in a few ways, but the most important is that it seems to show that the publishers of at least one American newspaper are wholly ignorant of American history. It seems that early last week the Warren Times Observer of Warren, Pennsylvania published an ad that basically expressed a desire to see President Barack Obama assassinated and they didn't even know it.

Mancow Muller Accused of Staging Fake Waterboarding | NewsBusters.org

I don't know if it is torture, or if it is something we should be doing to suspected terrorists. What I do have questions about is if anyone would really submit to torture willingly.

This is a scary game....

The sad part, is that just like a nasty divorce, it isn't the people pushing the violence forward that will suffer the most. The ones who will suffer the most are the people or Korea, both North and South.

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is warning North Korea, and pointedly not taking the military option off the table.

Another death gets neither side closer to agreement

Whatever side you stand on this issue, this is an act of terrorism plain and simple. In a civilized society we do not murder people we disagree with. We do not use violence as a political weapon.

KWCH in Kansas reports that the suspected murderer of abortion doctor George Tiller has been arrested near the town of Gardner.

MONDAY'S GREGALOGUE: WANDA SYKES

Greg is almost as funny when you read him, as when you see him on TV. Which is pretty funny.

So the White House Correspondents Dinner came and went, and once again your charming host was not invited. No matter – I had other plans – that pint of Ben and Jerry's wasn't going to climb into bed and eat itself, as I quietly sob to the final season of Men in Trees (I had pressed my paisley shorty robe for just the occasion).

I think Paris is like the Greek goddesses, if you stop believing in her she'll go away. I kind of think she is fun, so I am doing my part to keep her around.

I find all these "comment wars" useless, everyone who has a site that has open comments is going to have people who make outrageous and profoundly stupid comments. Lets stop throwing mud at each other, we are only making the process itself look dirty.

So maybe she isn't a racist

The full context of the debated phrase does make it more understandable, however it was a poor choice of words in my opinion.

On the other hand, that was years ago, I think the media should establish a statue of limitations of sorts for how long someone can be beaten up for a comment.

The offending section of the speech is this: "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life." This passage inspired Gingrich, former speaker of the House of Representatives and potential 2012 presidential candidate, to call Judge Sotomayor "a Latina racist."

To lift one statement out of Judge Sotomayor's eight-page speech without examining the context and substance of her remarks, is an example of the kind of shoddy character assassination that I suspect will dominate this judicial confirmation process.

In the next sentence immediately following the passage above, Judge Sotomayor says, "Let us not forget that wise men like Oliver Wendell Holmes and Justice [Benjamin] Cardozo voted on cases which upheld both sex and race discrimination in our society."

This sounds fair to me, Wal-Mart could have, and should have taken steps to better protect their employees.

Future of online news may be 'hyperlocal' - CNN.com

The idea of focusing on news that our readers can't get someplace else sounds good to me. Don't compete against CNN and Fox, you can't win. People will always want to know what is going on in their communities, CNN and Fox can't cover it, and won't cover it like small community sources.

Just a reminder this war is still going...

Soldier pay threatens to undo Congo's progress against rebels | csmonitor.com

Just a reminder - what could be the longest and deadliest war in history is still going on. If you date it back to the Rwandan genocide in 1994, it is almost 15 years old. But it is in Africa.

I hate the idea of her getting a show....

New Legal Challenge for Nadya Suleman - Nadya Suleman : People.com

but to be fair, she does have a tons of kids, and she needs to get money to take care of them some how. Even if this was her goal all along, if the kids are going to live with her she should be able to make money any way she can (legally) to take care of them. It isn't their fault their mom is nuts. (I should know about that)
