Hot Air » Blog Archive » Flight 327 revisited: Based on report, some air marshals suspect dry run:

"Portions of the report remain redacted. However, air marshals and former
air marshals who reviewed it when provided a copy by The Times say the
activities of the men confirmed by the inspector general details a dry run for a
terrorist attack.“This report is evidence of Homeland Security executives
attempting to downplay and cover-up an unmistakable dry-run that forced flight
attendants to reveal the air marshals and compel the pilots to open the flight
deck door,” said Robert MacLean, a former air marshal who was fired last year
for revealing the service planned to cut back on protection for long-distance
flights to save money."

This is an alarming story. I just read the post over and it sounds like things aren't going as planned with the new Homeland Security Department. If I understood right, it was set up to help the different enforcement and protection agencies to work together. If you read this story, it sounds like that is not happening.

Captain's Quarters

Captain's Quarters:

"Fred Thompson will take the first step towards declaring himself a candidate
for the Republican presidential nomination, according to Ryan Sager at the New
York Sun. After reportedly meeting with campaign-finance advisors, Thompson will
launch a presidential pre-exploratory committee, in a move that will delight
Republicans and satirists in equal measure:"

Can anyone keep track of all the candidates that are in the race anymore? I don't know much about Thompson, but he seems to sit to the right in the Republican party.

AL GORE: The Assault on Reason (highlights)

Captain's Quarters

Captain's Quarters:

"The Hill reports this morning that conservative Republicans in the House
have plans to derail the Senate immigration compromise based on a procedural
matter. The bill includes tax policy, which according to the Constitution, has
to originate in the House, and some Republicans have lined up to issue a 'blue
slip' stop to the legislation on that basis."

While I would normally support a bill that was crafted through compromise, this is not a good bill in my opinion and its failure is a good thing. It looks like the bill may be sidelined, at the least more time to work it over and fix some of the mistakes that were made in the bill are needed.

I'll be on CNN tonight - AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth:

"Paula Zahn's show, discussing the Pentagon policy of firing American service
members who are Arabic linguists simply because they're gay. They just fired 3
more. We should be on around 8:05 or 8:10 PM Eastern."

Yeah it makes perfect sense to fire people that we need dearly now because of the war against terror and the war in Iraq, just because they are gay. This is like when we went to fight in World War II and we took our racial inequalities with us. It didn't work then and it won't work now.

Bush now banning photo journalism of wounded troops - AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth:

"“They are basically asking me to stand in front of a unit before I go out with
them and say that in the event that they are wounded, I would like their
consent,” he said. “We are already viewed by some as bloodsucking vultures, and
making that kind of announcement would make you an immediate bad luck charm.”

“They are not letting us cover the reality of war,” he added. “I think
this has got little to do with the families or the soldiers and everything to do
with politics.”"

The war aside, this is a wrong thing to do. If we are to have an honest discussion about this war and the effects of this war, hiding the effects is like lying. This war, which I support for the most part, needs to be talked about in an honest way. Censorship is never an option in a free society and this is clear censorship.

Amy's Too Skinny For Her Mother | Dlisted

Amy's Too Skinny For Her Mother Dlisted:

" The Bride of Crackenstein, Amy Winehouse, is way too skinny according to
ther mother. Janis Winehouse told the Daily Mail, 'Amy's always been slim but
has never been this skinny before.' "

Is Amy headed down the path that Nicole, Paris and Lindsay have taken. The first step is the eating problems.

"Daniel Smith’s death inquest will begin next month in the Bahamas. Howard K.
Stern is attempting to make some changes to the proceedings. He has filed an
“appeal for the jury selection in the inquest, asking that his attorneys be
allowed to submit a special questionnaire for the screening process.”"

This story hasn't been in the spot light for a while. I had almost thought that it existed at all.

"When was the last time you thought of Kevin Federline? He has been flying
under the radar for quite some time. Well, Kevin has just landed his latest
movie role in Night Watcher, a movie that features Keanu Reeves and Forest
Whitaker. Can you imagine if he becomes the next best thing in Hollywood?"

I so thought this guy was gone. Wouldn't it really be a twist if he became a star, and Britney wasn't able to get her career back on track.

Best Week Ever » Blog Archive » SIZZLER: Hollywood Clubs To Stop Serving Famous Kids In Wake Of Lohan Bust, Pandemonium To Ensue:

"Authorities are trying to crack down on one of the worst-kept secrets in
Hollywood: underage stars partying hard at trendy clubs on the Sunset Strip and
Hollywood Boulevard.
Doormen at Hollywood hot spots have been lifting the
velvet rope for teen stars for years. Two decades ago, Drew Barrymore became
tabloid fodder after being spotted drinking at Hollywood clubs when she was 13
and 14.
These days, there’s no hiding the illicit behavior, thanks to the
aggressive tactics of Hollywood’s ever-expanding paparazzi corps, who document
celebrities through every nightclub-hopping step."

While it is true that the clubs should not be letting these under age stars into their clubs and letting them drink, I don't know you can blame them for what happened. Things like this don't only happen to drinkers who are underage, you are not going to stop alcoholism and its effects by shutting off the tap to younger drinkers. The other reason that I don't think the clubs can be blamed, is that if they do (and they might) shut them out of the clubs they will drink some where else. I am not suggesting that they should be allowed to drink in public and make a mockery of the drinking laws. It should just be pointed out that this step alone won't change to pattern of young stars drinking in Hollywood - only the location.

Celeb Jurisprudence: Spector Trial Medical Examiner Rationally Explains Why He Had Murder On His Mind - Defamer:

"It's difficult to know for certain what goes through the bewigged head of Phil
Spector as witness after witness takes the stand to offer their damning
testimony--perhaps he's conjuring elaborate revenge fantasies involving a
variety of binding materials and a double-barreled shotgun, with 'Carmina
Burana' blasting over the castle stereo system. Yesterday's appearance by L.A.
County Medical Examiner Dr. Louis Pena certainly didn't do the defense any
favors, with the doctor explaining how several factors led him to conclude the
shooting was a homicide: "

I don't see how anyone could believe the story that is being sold by the defense. If they get this guy off, maybe the can take a look at the Scott Peterson case next.

Lindsay Lohan: The Heartbreaking Slideshow - Defamer:

"Today, the NY Daily News has compiled a slideshow tracing the trajectory
of Lohan's speedy descent from child-star innocence to 20 year-old rehab
second-timer, from her first mugshot, to a wild night of chugging gateway
cocktails (above) with some hard-partying friends back in Long Island, to the
shocking image of the curb she murdered with her Mercedes SL-65 on that fateful
early Saturday morning. "

Younger stars should be looking at this and understanding that it didn't happen all at once.

Clearly she is making a point about our culture here, and how we celebrate every holiday by getting drunk. What if we took the time to understand at least one of the holidays. Besides most people get drunk every day anyway.

"TMZ has confirmed that Miss Lohan is, in fact, back in rehab, at Promises
Malibu, as InTouch reported yesterday. She checked in on Monday, after being
driven there by her lawyer (really? Where was her family?). She’ll be in an

Again I wish her well. She can put this behind her.

Tom DeLay.com - Home - The Democrats Trojan Horse Minimum Wage in War Funding Bill

Tom DeLay.com - Home - The Democrats Trojan Horse Minimum Wage in War Funding Bill:

"America's lowest-paid workers won a $2.10 raise Thursday, with Congress
approving the first increase in the federal minimum wage in almost a decade.
President Bush was expected to sign the bill quickly, and workers who now
make $5.15 an hour will see their paychecks go up by 70 cents per hour before
the end of the summer. Another 70 cents will be added next year, and by summer
2009, all minimum-wage jobs will pay no less than $7.25 an hour."

While I think that the minimum wage needs to be raised. I think that this is a cheap way of getting it passed. Bills should be written so that they are not a collection of different ideas, but one clear idea. When a vote is made on an issue I don't think that it is fair that they are forced to vote on an issue that they disagree with. Single Subject, Single Bill, Single Vote.

I’m Not Obsessed

I’m Not Obsessed:

"Nicole Richie is emaciated. I mean LITERALLY emaciated. This picture is not
photoshopped. There are about a dozen more showing her looking the same exact
way. "

It is starting to look like the life in Hollywood is something that drives people crazy. Far from being the good life it is the life of DUIs, cocaine and anorexia. Just the sort if life that everyone dreams of, granted there is the money, but is the money worth not only the personal problems. Problems that are played on the stage of public awareness. Many people condemn them for being attention whores, but I wonder if this is the kind of attention that anyone wants.
