“Filner faces assault charges in airport run-in”

Rep. Bob Filner faces assault and battery charges in connection with an
alleged run-in Sunday night with a United Airlines employee at Dulles
International Airport, according to an airport spokeswoman.

The San Diego Democrat, whose office had no immediate comment Monday afternoon, is scheduled to appear Oct. 2 in Loudon County General District Court.

Last year a Democratic congress womyn from Georgia attacked a Capital Hill Officer. The voters in her district threw her out in the next election. Even if charges are not filed, he should loose his seat for this obvious violent act. He should loose it at the hands of the voters though, and not a political machine.

Mohammed comes in at number 22 and Muhammed comes in at number 44. Looking at past years, Mohammed hasn’t cracked number 20 ever. IOW, Dan’s making shit up.

The statistic was making the rounds a while back that next year Mohammed would be the most popular childrens name in England. It has been used as proof that the culture of the west is being taken over and lost to that of the east. I thought I would share this data that seems to counter the statistic.

This is my first week back to school, it is going to be a great semester, I can tell already. My goal is to continue to provide you with the same amount and quality of content that you have come to expect from the site. That may not always be possible, so while I am doing my best I hope that you will understand. Also today I had to mail my laptop off to get it repaired - I still have my desk top (slow) and access at school so I should be able to keep posting. On a side note I am thinking about bringing in some guest bloggers, I am keeping an eye out for people who can write a number of posts a day. If that happens I will post a notice of introduction.

Did Miniter Go Too Far?

When Pajamas Media heard the authenticity questions surrounding the “Baghdad
Diarist” articles by Scott Thomas Beauchamp in The New Republic, we asked our
Washington Editor Richard Miniter to look into how the respected opinion
magazine could once again be the locus of such a scandal.

Miniter spoke with several people involved in the extraordinary story, including the
whistle-blower and a German woman who was Beauchamp’s fiancée until just before
he married, of all people, Miniter discovered, a fact-checker at The New
Republic. That fiancée said of her former boyfriend, the soldier/reporter: “He
hates the army. The only reason he joined was because he wanted to have more
experience to write about.”

It is asked if Miniter went to far, and made the attack on Beauchamp too personal. What I wonder is if this is all about politics being too personal. Everything from the stories themselves that seem to have been written by Beauchamp as a personal attack against the armed services. To the pundits who believed it, because they wanted to believe it - perhaps if they were not so personally attached to their ideas they would have seen the problems in the story. That includes people who worked at the magazine, was their relationship with the author too personal - he was engaged to one of the fact checkers, would a more objective fact checker seen the errors in the story? Even the attacks against the story, came out so fast and hot, that many of them must have been personal. Like those who are against the war, they have gotten too attached to their ideas and see any attack on them as personal. In the end, the last question is what does this mean for political dialogue in this country.

The Moral Hazard of Regulating Sub-Prime Mortgage Lending

The term "moral hazard" is being bandied about in commentary about the sub-prime mortgage woes currently roiling our financial markets. Columns from George Will and Irwin Stelzer among many others, warn against the interposition of
government bail-outs or federal pressure on lenders to develop rescue packages
for failing sub-prime borrowers. These bail-outs fit the traditional definition
of moral hazard as "an insurance problem; when the cost of a disaster is reduced
with insurance, people have less incentive to avoid the disaster."

I have to agree that I think more damage would be done attempting to save these borrowers and the loan holders than allowing them to go under. The best solution other than that in my advice would be to set up a program that can assist loan holders in getting control of their debt so that they can make the payments.

What other reason could the Bush administration and General Petraeus have for
choosing September 11 as the date to testify before Congress on how well he's
doing in Iraq? He must be going to tell us why he and his president have failed
to catch Osama bin Laden, right?

I think this is the wrong day to be doing this. Congress should be on break that day so that they can attend memorials. The war is very political now, and the report is going to be given in a very politically charged environment. It would be better in my view to do it on a day that wasn't so important to so many people.

Fox: Hannity "Not A Journalist"

The New York Daily News reported yesterday that Fox News personality Sean
Hannity introduced Rudy Giuliani at a closed-door $250/head fundraiser in
Cincinnati on August 9. Bill Shine, Fox's senior vice president of programming,
said Hannity should not be judged according to the standards of journalistic
ethics, which speak out against actively helping a candidate in such a manner.
"Sean is not a journalist - Sean is a conservative commentator," Shine said.
"Sean doesn't hide, and never has hidden, his beliefs from anyone."

I have to agree that he is not a journalist. The way I look at it is that if his network knows that he is doing this, and his viewers know that he is doing this, they can make their own choices. If the network is concerned about how this will effect viewers, they will tell him that he needs to stop or get another job. Viewers have the choice of watching the show or not, he is clear in his bias and where he stands on the issues. Viewers who don't want to hear that kind of bias from a news show have the option to change the channel. If the viewership slips the network will either shut him up or can him. I get tired of the assumption that viewers don't have a voice, in the end it is the viewers voice alone that counts.

I think the added benefit to taking someone as a vice president that wasn't in the race is that they have not been battered. This has been a harsh race, and if for example Hilary were to take on Obama as a VP then it would raise a lot of doubts about how they would get along. Also, it has been said that once someone wants to be president, they always want to be president. In their office as vice president are they concerned with your administration or working towards having their own.

How important is experience. I have long held that I think that Obama is a good person, and that his ideas are well intentioned but that he doesn't have the experience to be the president. Is it really that important and what do candidates learn in years of public service that enables them to make better presidents, if anything. It has a lot to do with working with the parties, understanding a deal and how to get bills passed. In terms of international actions taken by the United States I think that the same experience in political relationships and making political deals comes into play. The more you do it the better you are, and Obama just hasn't had the practice that I think is needed.

I don't think that it could be said that they are shills for anyone. The style of journalism that is pursued at Christian Science Daily is one of putting the facts on the table and allowing the readers to make judgements. In this piece they fall short of saying that what Hamas is doing is wrong, but they do not support it either. It clearly is a sad state of affairs that already children are being taught - if not hate, ideas that will lead to hate as they get older. When will the children no longer be taught to fear and hate each other.

The West Hollywood Mayor Pro Tem says his city has launched an investigation,
after TMZ posted a story about a parking enforcement officer who allegedly
offered to excuse a ticket in return for naked pictures.

FHM model Vida Guerra — famous for her bootylicious backside — claims she was out Friday night with for dinner with friends. When they returned to her car, they saw a parking enforcement officer writing a ticket. Vida said she was shocked at a remark allegedly made by the officer’s partner, L. Salgado. Vita says, “I can’t believe the guy said he wouldn’t give it to me if he got a naked picture of me.”

Well I am sure that the officer when asked about it will assure that he was joking and had no intention of actually following through with the offer. It is hard to say not being there, if that is going to be a solid defense for him or not. Since he didn't actually see her naked and she did get the ticket, the officer might get away with a reprimand. Even joking, officers should not be making statements like that to womyn - hot or otherwise.

CBS Faces Controversy Over New Show "Kid Nation"

There is troubling brewing in Bonanza City, New Mexico thanks to a brand new CBS
reality show called “Kid Nation. ” 40 children aged 8 to 15 were dropped off in
what had become an abandoned ghost town with “no parents and no rules“, as
explained by Executive Producer, Tom Forman. As seen in a current promo running
on CBS, for 40 days the children cooked their own meals, cleaned their own
outhouses, formed a government and ran their own businesses, all without adult
intervention or participation.

What kind of people think this show sounds like a good idea, people who don't have a job anymore. The show is being attacked by parents for what it claims amounted to abuse and neglect, apparently some kids got sick from drinking bleach from an unmarked bottle, and other was injured by grease while cooking. The network is also looking at trouble regarding if the show violated child labor laws in the state. Some of the children reportedly worked from sun up to sun down.

Hours after performing at the UK’s V Festival in Staffordshire Pete was
arrested on suspicion of drugs. He is still in custody in a London Police
Station.

I also agree though, before anything like that can happen what she really needs to be doing is thinking about her own health. She is young and if she takes care of herself she can have a long career, but if she doesn't we will lose her.
