Books: Bailouts Spike Atlas Shrugged Sales

Books: Bailouts Spike Atlas Shrugged Sales:

"All of the government's pesky market intrusions have people snapping up copies
of Atlas Shrugged like they were bailout packages. Since it's not like Ayn
Rand's laissez-faire fantasies got us into this mess."

I love the book, everyone should read it.

Anne Of Green Gables: Why Isn't Anne Shirley Worth of Huck Finn Status?

Anne Of Green Gables: Why Isn't Anne Shirley Worth of Huck Finn Status?:

"How did a book — eventually a series of books — beloved by even sometimes-Y.A.
author Mark Twain not make it into the canon of Things You Must Read? And how
many of the books in that canon are about girls?"

I think everyone should read these great books.

Ramona Forever - Jezebel

Ramona Forever - Jezebel:

"One of our favorite characters from a cherished, children's 'chapter' book
series -- Ramona Quimby -- is getting the Hollywood treatment and is being
adapted for the big screen. We don't really know how to feel about this, because
we're sure they're gonna 'update' Ramona, thus making her suck"

This should be a good movie for kids. I never read the books, but my sister did and she said that they were really good. You know who they should put in the main role, Ali Lohan. If she can act half as good as her sister I think that she will fit right in. She has the looks of a slightly dorky looking girl too, but not so much so that people wouldn't want to watch.

Amazon.com: Power to the People: Signed Edition: Books: Laura Ingraham

Amazon.com: Power to the People: Signed Edition: Books: Laura Ingraham

What does this term power to the people mean? It is used by both sides, but does it mean the same things to both sides, and if so why can't there be more agreement.

I think for the left it means that people have the right to regulate businesses interests. The left believes that the threat to liberty comes from corporations that use and abuse power. That is why they are so focused and concerned about money flowing into politics. They want the government to limit the ability of media companies to how large of a portion of a market they can own because they fear that the media corporations will use control of this resource for its own ends and not that of the people.

On the right it means that people have the right to buy products from the best seller, for the best price. It means that people have the right to go into and conduct business without the government interfering with regulations. It means that people have the right to own what they work for without the government taxing it away to give it to someone who doesn't work. The right believes the threat to liberties comes not from business but from government. They don't fear the power of business to buy and sell, because they don't believe that this is a controlling function. They believe that peoples rights are violated when the government takes money from tax payers and gives it to either their supporters or big government agencies.

The truth I believe is that business do use their market leverage to its own advantage, and sometimes that means to the disadvantage of the people. There is a check for this that isn't used as strongly as it could be. Also government abuses the power that is given to it, to seek advantages from some groups at the cost of others. There is a check for this to, which is also not used as strongly as it could be.

People have the power, you don't have to give them the power. The check for corporations is that consumers choose not to purchase products from companies that they don't like. Either the company will be forced to change its ways, or it will sink. The check on government is that voters have the ability to vote politicians that are not executing their will out of office. Leaders who do not listen to the voice of the people are soon replaced. The problem isn't power to the people, the people are power, they are like batteries. However just like batteries they are only powerful when plugged in, too many Americans are blind to the choices that they make as consumers and make no choice as voters.

Lies: James Frey Sells Novel, Lies About That Too

Lies: James Frey Sells Novel, Lies About That Too

"I have never written a short story in my life," James told Times book reporter
Motoko Rich yesterday when she contacted him about the rumors. "But Mr. Frey
published a short story last fall in a catalog for an exhibition by Malerie
Marder, a Los Angeles-based artist," Motoko reports. ZING.

James Fry is selling a new book, but continuous to live in his own world where truth is relevant to what he thinks it should be. It is hard to say if you are supporting his lies by purchasing the book, he is a novelist after all.

Gabby Babble: 'Blonde Ambition' Is Selling Like Crazy!

It is a number 19 on the Amazon best seller list after only two days. This book is going to make a name for Rita and get her a chunk of change. Lets hope that Larry doesn't take any of it away from her because of her tales of his gay affair.

Barnes & Noble Inc. has changed its mind about the new O.J. Simpson book.

Barnes & Noble Reverses on 'If I Did It'

Barnes & Noble Inc. has changed its mind about the new O.J. Simpson book.
After saying it would not stock copies of "If I Did It" in its stores,
citing lack of customer demand, the chain told The Associated Press on Thursday
that it would indeed carry the book.

Barnes & Noble changed its mind and chose the low road as opposed to to noble path. I know this is not the first book about a murder, it isn't even the first book about the OJ murder. However there is something that feels very wrong about this book.

Corporate Moral Compasses: Barnes & Noble Draws The Sleaze-Lit Line At O.J.'s 'If I Did It'

Corporate Moral Compasses: Barnes & Noble Draws The Sleaze-Lit Line At O.J.'s 'If I Did It'

"Our buyers don't feel there will be enough of a demand to carry it in our
stores," Barnes & Noble spokeswoman Mary Ellen Keating told The Associated
Press on Tuesday.

If I saw it in a book store I would want to steal it, just because it would be morally acceptable to do so in my mind. If the store is going to be so morally sick, and the family is going to be so morally base, do they really have any ground to say it is wrong to steal. This isn't a book about a criminal case as have been produced before, this is a book about the crime itself, written by the person who is widely believed to have done it.

KATIE COURIC: EXPOSED?

KATIE COURIC: EXPOSED?

The unauthorized biography ‘Katie: The Real Story’ claims, among many other
things, that Katie Couric (during her bachelorette days) crippled the marriage
of a CNN exec who promised to crown her a star, then as ‘Today’ cohost
deliberately ate into Matt Lauer’s air time and “did everything in her power” to
squash the ascension of rising star Ann Curry.

It really is open season on Katie isn't it. If people keep treating her like this, there will only be one thing that she will be able to do. Run for president, or as vice president with Hilary.

J.K. Rowling Writing Detective Novel--Bumpshack.com

J.K. Rowling Writing Detective Novel--Bumpshack.com:

"The Sunday Times newspaper quoted Ian Rankin, a fellow author and neighbor of
Rowling’s, as saying the creator of the “Harry Potter” books is turning to crime
fiction. “My wife spotted her writing her Edinburgh criminal detective novel,”
the newspaper, which was available late Saturday, quoted Rankin as telling a
reporter at an Edinburgh literary festival."

J.K. Rowling fans might be happy to know that while she won't be writing any more Harry Potter books, she is planning on writing more books. According to The Sunday Times newspaper she is working on a crime fiction novel next. Should be a good read.

celebrity nation: Posh to publish style book

celebrity nation: Posh to publish style book:

"Posh Spice is going to be telling Americans how to dress. Victoria Beckham,
known for her style-setting ways more than anything else, has signed a deal with
HarperEntertainment to publish 'That Extra Half Inch: Hair, Heels and Everything
in Between.' The 'handbag-size style guide' will help women 'learn how to dress
for special occasions, shop for everyday wear and where to look for it, define
the accessory look for you,' as well as 'helpful hints for the holidays, making
the most of your wardrobe and how to feel confident and great every time you
leave the house.' Is she planning a diet book next? This woman is no fashion
expert."

Sounds like it should be a hit, Posh is a great dresser. David is a good dresser too, I wonder if she picks out his clothes for him.

Anti-Christ To Be Published, Goldman Family Will Benefit

A Socialite's Life: Anti-Christ To Be Published, Goldman Family Will Benefit

"The controversial O.J. book, "If I Did It," will be repackaged and
published, a New York literary agent announced today. In a statement, a rep for
the agent proclaimed, "The family and publisher have pledged to leave Simpson's
manuscript entirely intact, but they will also add key commentary.""

This book was sick when it was OJ and Judith Regan who were selling it. The fact that it is now the family of the victim that is selling it, doesn't make it any less sick in my book. It is good that they are going to get the money for the books sales, well at least better than OJ getting it. Selling a book to make money off the murder of a relative, sounds like America.

O.J. Has to Practice Acting Like a Human Being

A Socialite's Life: O.J. Has to Practice Acting Like a Human Being

"'O.J. told me [ReganBooks publisher] Judith Regan approached him and said to
him, 'Do you mind if we write a book and put your name on it?' I said, 'I don't
care. You can write anything you want, as long as you pay me,' ' said promoter
Norm Pardo, who's preparing a TV documentary about Simpson.
'O.J. would
laugh, 'Can you believe they'd pay me to say I wrote something I didn't actually
write?' A ghostwriter largely based the book on court transcripts from Simpson's
trial,' Pardo told Page Six."

Breaking news, OJ did not write the book about his crime. This is just shocking I tell you. Since he is in the mood to talk, he should come out and confess that he really did kill the mother of his children.

OJ "Did It" Manuscript Leaked Online - TMZ.com

OJ "Did It" Manuscript Leaked Online - TMZ.com:

"Then something went horribly wrong, and I know what happened, but I can't tell
you exactly how. I was still standing in Nicole's courtyard, of course, but for
a few moments I couldn't remember how I'd gotten there, when I'd arrived, or
even why I was there. Then it came back to me, very slowly: The recital-with
little Sydney up on stage, dancing her little heart out; me, chipping balls into
my neighbor's yard; Paula, angry, not answering her phone; Charlie, stopping by
the house to tell me some more ugly shit about Nicole's behavior. Then what? The
short, quick drive from Rockingham to the Bundy condo. And now?

Now I
was standing in Nicole's courtyard, in the dark, listening to the loud,
rhythmic, accelerated beating of my own heart. I put my left hand to my heart
and my shirt felt strangely wet. I looked down at myself. For several moments, I
couldn't get my mind around what I was seeing. The whole front of me was covered
in blood, but it didn't compute. Is this really blood? I wondered. And whose
blood is it? Is it mine? Am I hurt?"

The above is from the leaked transcript of the OJ Simpson book and I have very little to say about it. I think this is something that stinks so bad, it doesn't need to be pointed out.

History Repeating: Al Gore Victimized Once More By Questionable Metrics Tool - Gawker

History Repeating: Al Gore Victimized Once More By Questionable Metrics Tool - Gawker:

"Tough news for Al Gore from popular blogger Matt Drudge: ''THE REAGAN DIARIES'
OUTSOLD AL GORE'S 'ASSAULT ON REASON' IN OPENING WEEK ACTION, BOOKSCAN WILL
REPORT. REAGAN WON THE RACE BY SELLING JUST 5 MORE BOOKS THAN GORE!'"

I wonder if he is going to demand a recount.

Book Excerpt: The Assault on Reason -- Printout -- TIME

Book Excerpt: The Assault on Reason -- Printout -- TIME:

"It is too easy—and too partisan—to simply place the blame on the policies of
President George W. Bush. We are all responsible for the decisions our country
makes. We have a Congress. We have an independent judiciary. We have checks and
balances. We are a nation of laws. We have free speech. We have a free press.
Have they all failed us? Why has America's public discourse become less focused
and clear, less reasoned? Faith in the power of reason—the belief that free
citizens can govern themselves wisely and fairly by resorting to logical debate
on the basis of the best evidence available, instead of raw power—remains the
central premise of American democracy. This premise is now under assault. "

I think Al Gore can do better things out of public office than in.
