Cuban TV shows new images of ailing Fidel Castro - Yahoo! News

Cuban TV shows new images of ailing Fidel Castro - Yahoo! News:

"HAVANA - Cuban television on Tuesday showed the first images of Fidel Castro in
more than five months, broadcasting a silent video of the ailing revolutionary
chatting in a garden with visiting Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez."

It looks like he really is alive, if he were dead he would look better.

lgf: Fidel Goes Troofer

lgf: Fidel Goes Troofer:

"HAVANA (Reuters) - Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro said the U.S. government
misinformed Americans and the world about 9/11, echoing conspiracy theories
about the terror attacks against the United States six years ago. In an essay
read by a Cuban television presenter on Tuesday night, Castro said the Pentagon
was hit by a rocket, not a plane, because no traces were found of its
passengers. "

I'm only surprised that it took him this long to throw in with the truthers and their insanity. I can understand why Fidel would want to say these things, that are clearly untrue. Why would Americans spread lies about their own country though.

Daily Kos: Dodd: End Cuba Embargo

Daily Kos: Dodd: End Cuba Embargo:

"Presidential hopeful Chris Dodd would end a decades-old trade embargo with Cuba
and lift travel restrictions to the island if elected, he said Saturday. The
Democratic senator from Connecticut also said he would open an embassy in Havana
and shut down TV Marti, a U.S. government-run television station that broadcasts
to Cuba. 'Other than the war in Iraq, no other American policy is more broadly
unpopular internationally,' Dodd said of the United States' policy toward Cuba."

I don't support shutting down the TV station, but opening trade with Cuba makes sense. Cuba will fall in the same way that China is falling into capitalism, and global markets. It happens because communism is based on a flawed foundation. When people are given access to more consumer goods, they are going to want more consumer goods. That is going to increase the demand for income. There are many people in all countries who find that they just can't make the income they want working for others. They start their own business, the rise of small business in Cuba will lead to a population that is more concerned about taxes and the spending of government money - money they worked hard for. The denial of small business itself would result in rising tensions, if that were the case. These tensions and desire to effect government will force the government into allowing free speech, or total repression.

Once voters gain power of the machinery of government they will start to take it apart. In the end will it look like America, I doubt it, but it will be open to the world in ways that it isn't now. It will be free in ways that it isn't now.

Edwards Cuba Stumble Receives Meager Media Attention | NewsBusters.org

Edwards Cuba Stumble Receives Meager Media Attention NewsBusters.org:

"When an Iowa resident asked former senator John Edwards Thursday whether
the United States should follow the Cuban healthcare model, the 2004 vice
presidential contender deflected the question by saying he didn't know enough to
answer the question. 'I'm going to be honest with you - I don't know a lot about
Cuba's healthcare system,' Edwards, D-N.C., said at an event in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
'Is it a government-run system?'"

Sounds like an attempt to avoid the question at best. As a candidate and potential president, this is information that he should be aware of. This is after he had reportedly watch Michael Moore's movie "Sicko", which talks a little bit about Cuba.

What a night!

What a night!

Ok. So once again - this must be like the millionth time - we were duped into
the fidel castro is dead thing. But were we, really? Does anyone really think
he's still alive, all all of that hullaballooo?

Sounds like the rumors of Fidel's death are at this point unfounded - being it is Cuba though, Fidel might live longer than Elvis.

The Truth Will Come Out

The Truth Will Come Out

We stand by our story 100%.

Fidel Castro is dead!

The only way the Cuban government can settle this once and for all, though, is to parade him (alive) around Havana this weekend. No pictures or video!

Gossip blogger Perez Hilton claims to have a source that confirms that Fidel is dead, and he is standing by his story. I think that this either means that Fidel is dead or Perez Hilton's site is dead. He is putting to much out there for people to accept that he is reliable if it turns out that Fidel is alive.

Fidel Castro Dead (again)?

Fidel Castro Dead (again)?

Supposedly South Florida Police departments are calling in for reinforcements
before any official announcement is made.

Even Val Prieto made an announcement earlier. and then came back on saying that nothing is official yet.

Update 5:35 PM EST - Val at Babalu Blog is reporting that although no
announcements have been made several sources in different branches of the
government are verifying that the story is true. As soon as I get confirmation
(TV,Email,CNN) I will post it (if I am not too drunk)

Claims of confirmation from sources in the American government. I will continue to bring you information as I get it, this is not confirmed yet in my book.

OMG BREAKING CASTRO IS MAYBE DEAD AGAIN!!!

OMG BREAKING CASTRO IS MAYBE DEAD AGAIN!!!

Fidel Castro has outlived the following ten U.S. presidents who always tried to
kill him: Dwight “I like Ike” Eisenhower, John “JFK” Kennedy, Lyndon “LBJ”
Johnson, Richard “Dick” M. Nixon, Gerald “Jerry” Ford, Jimmy “James Earl Jones”
Carter, Ronald “Nancy” Reagan, George “Wimp Factor” Bush, Bill “Monica” Clinton
and George “Junior” Cheney-Bush.

At this point it is a wild and speculative rumor, but there are some sources that are claiming that Castro is dead. This means little as far as Cuba goes, since his brother has been in power for about a year now anyways. Cuba being Cuba, they may or may not come out with the truth, but it might need to be forced out. He has been leading his country far longer than anyone thought he would, maybe even far longer than he thought he would when he left Mexico in a boat named "Grandma".

I will post more as it becomes available.

Breaking: Obama Not Whacked on Cuba

Breaking: Obama Not Whacked on Cuba

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is leaping into the long-running Cuba debate by calling for the United States to ease restrictions for Cuban-Americans who want to visit the island or send money home.

Obama’s campaign said Monday that, if elected, the Illinois senator would lift restrictions imposed by the Bush administration and allow Cuban-Americans to visit their relatives more frequently, as well as ease limits on the amount of money they can send to their families.

Our policy of ignoring them and hoping that they would go away hasn't worked all these years. Why is it so crazy to talk about trying something new. Look at the changes that China has made since we have opened relations. There is something strange about Americas attitude towards Cuba.

Barack's Big Moment

Hugh Hewitt: Barack's Big Moment

"Responding to one of the YouTube questions, Barack Obama announced he would
meet with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Cuba, Venezuela and North Korea without
precondition in his first year of his presidency, sending oppressed people in
those countries and around the world a clear message: The U.S, under a President
Obama will not be worrying about them."

This was a statement that scares me as well. I think that Clinton scored really strongly on this point. She talked about diplomacy, but at the same time she talked about how these regimes need to do something to show that this is going to be an honest debate.

American Thinker: The Antithesis of Michael Moore: Real Courage in Cuba

American Thinker: The Antithesis of Michael Moore: Real Courage in Cuba:

"There’s been much made recently about the vaunted Cuban medical system
since propagandist Michael Moore traveled to Havana with 9/11 heroes in tow
searching for 'free' health care. It’s Mr. Moore’s idea of a clever way to
criticize America and the capitalist system he exploits so brilliantly. Of
course, it never actually occurred to him that while he was 'free' to film in
Cuba there were political prisons suffering in Castro’s gulags simply for doing
exactly what Moore thinks is his sole universal right; speaking out. A big mouth
coupled with a small mind is a dangerous combination. "

Moore is making a shaky point by taking 9/11 workers to Cuba. Like this points out Cuba is not a country that embraces free speech, the films he makes about the American Government would have gotten him put in jail if they had been made by a Cuban about the Cuban government.

Second, this is after there was such a stink among those on the left about Bush using 9/11 and the victims of the attack as tools for his own political ends. Is it the case that it is ok for Moore to do something that it wasn't ok for Bush to do. I think it was wrong when Bush did it and I think it is wrong that Moore is doing it.
