Strategies for Confronting Iran

Top Two McCain Campaign Officials Step Down | Air America Radio

Top Two McCain Campaign Officials Step Down Air America Radio:

"Campaign Manager Terry Nelson and Chief Strategist John Weaver have offered
their resignations and left Senator John McCain's struggling presidential
campaign. "

I think it is time for McCain to take his exit from this race, he is falling behind in the polls, in the money race and he has attached himself to closely to an unpopular president.

NAACP Buries the N-word | Air America Radio

NAACP Buries the N-word Air America Radio:

"The ceremony, which NAACP leaders called 'historic,' included a 20-minute
procession led by two pale gray Percheron horses slowly pulling a simple pine
coffin from downtown Detroit's Cobo Center to Hart Plaza. As it reached the plaza,
the coffin -- adorned with a bouquet of fake black roses and a ribbon with a
derivative of the word -- was carried on the shoulders of eight pallbearers to a
spot in the outdoor amphitheater as a church choir sang: 'We've Come This Far By
Faith.' The coffin will be buried beneath a headstone at historically black,
Detroit Memorial Park Cemetery."

I love the idea, but I doubt this is going to be meaningful.

Ron Paul's Disappointing Fundraising Quarter

Hugh Hewitt: Ron Paul's Disappointing Fundraising Quarter

"Keying off reports that his fundraising was in the $3-4 million range, I
had predicted that Paul would raise at least $4 million for the quarter. Paul’s
supporters believed this assessment was credible enough, and ran with it. By
some accounts, Paul is doing even better than Obama online. And Obama raised over $10 million online last quarter. "

Shocking, yes shocking, Paul is falling behind in the money race. He does have more cash on hand than McCain, but I think I have more cash on hand than McCain.

lgf: Gordon Brown: Don't Say Terrorists Are Muslims

lgf: Gordon Brown: Don't Say Terrorists Are Muslims:

"“Let us be clear – terrorists are criminals, whose victims come from all walks
of life, communities and religions. Terrorists attack the values shared by all
law-abiding citizens. As a Government, as communities, as individuals, we need
to ensure that the message of the terrorists is rejected.”"

The more you use the terms Muslim and terrorist like they are one and the same, the more that these groups will act like they are one in the same. It may be easier perhaps for people in the UK to understand this, because they have had problems with terrorists for decades, christian terrorists. The reality is that the terrorists want Muslims to believe the west is against them, in order to counter that we must behave inclusively.

Ridiculous Attempt To Spin Iraq War

lgf: Rage Boy: The Interview

lgf: Rage Boy: The Interview:

"Shakeel Bhat, 31, has been displaying his teeth and shaking his fist over anything from Salman Rushdie’s knighthood to Danish cartoons, becoming a photographers’ favourite and earning himself the nickname “Rage Boy” in online columns and blogs.
One American columnist has dismissed him as a “professional Muslim protester,” while other bloggers have also held him up for ridicule as a person who appears to be very easily enraged about anything. But Bhat, the man behind the angry face, said he could take any kind of criticism in his stride"

I have met people like this during my time in Santa Cruz, what they are really after is attention and the feeling of importance. There is the feeling that if they are loud enough, and at enough of the protests you will be seen as important and informed. Of course it only means that you have a big mouth and lots of free time.

Fred Thompson aided Nixon on Watergate - Yahoo! News

Fred Thompson aided Nixon on Watergate - Yahoo! News:

"Thompson, now preparing a bid for the 2008 GOP presidential
nomination, won fame in 1973 for asking a committee witness the bombshell
question that revealed Nixon had installed hidden listening devices and taping
equipment in the Oval Office.
Those tapes show Thompson played a behind-the-scenes role that was very different from his public image three decades ago. He comes across as a partisan willing to cooperate with the Nixon White House's effort to discredit the committee's star witness."

While Thompson is running as an outside, it sounds like he is as much of an insider as you can be. Working with Nixon, a lobbyist and a lawyer who supported Scooter Libby. How is it that he can walk on the stage and claim that he is an outsider?

Rasmussen Reports™: The most comprehensive public opinion coverage ever provided for a mid-term election.:

"Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has the lead in the first Rasmussen
Reports poll of New Hampshire’s Republican Presidential Primary. Romney
currently attracts support from 26% of Likely Primary Voters, nine points more
than his nearest competitor. New Hampshire is an important state for all
candidates but an absolute must-win for Romney. In addition to being from
neighboring Massachusetts, Romney is the only candidate to spend money
advertising in New Hampshire this early in the cycle."

Looks like we have a front runner for the republican party. This could be a result of factors dragging down other candidates and early money that Romney has invested in his race.

Michelle Malkin » They hate us, but they keep buying our stuff

Michelle Malkin » They hate us, but they keep buying our stuff:

"Foreigners don’t have a high opinion of the United States, owing to the war in
Iraq, but that hasn’t done much to deter a ferocious appetite for American goods and services, as had
been expected.
Last year, U.S. multinationals posted record earnings in virtually ever region of the world and rose to a total of $291.5 billion — a 170 percent jump from 2001’s cyclical low — Joseph Quinlan, chief market strategist at Bank of America Corp., noted in a report on Monday.
Those figures run counter to the global image of America. A 47-country survey released in late
June by the Pew Global Attitudes Project documented wide anti-American sentiment
since the survey was launched in 2002 and found those attitudes deepening this
year.
The United States’ favorable ratings declined in 26 of the 33
countries for which a comparison was available, with negative views particularly
strong in the Middle East."

I think that the key here is that they love America, but they do not like the actions that are taken by our country sometimes. I think they still support the ideas that our country is based on, and the ideas that our system promotes, but are against the methods of power used by America across the world.

MotherJones.com MoJoBlog - Social Issues and Political Commentary: Hustler (!!) at the Heart of the Vitter Sex Scandal:

"If this story keeps getting more entertaining, we may blog nothing else. Turns
out, Hustler was the news organization ('news organization') that discovered
Senator Vitter's presence on the DC Madam's phone list. They called Vitter for
comment, and Vitter, realizing the game was up, ran to the AP with the
admission, so as to preempt the Hustler story. Larry Flint, grand don of all
things Hustler, is on an ongoing campaign to expose the hidden sexual misdeeds
of the powerful, so there may be more of this glorious nonsense coming down the
pipe."

I wonder if this is a result of the pay day that was offered by Flint not to long ago in the newspaper.

The Strata-Sphere » Blog Archive » al-Qaeda Killing Massive Numbers Of Muslims

The Strata-Sphere » Blog Archive » al-Qaeda Killing Massive Numbers Of Muslims:

"al-Qaeda is all about sending signals in the news media. They are trying to say ‘we’re big, we’re bad, leave or we will kill more’. Of course, if we leave they will kill more also. More
people in the West from their new base in Iraq. What is tragic is some of the
vultures in the news media don’t get their assigned role in all of this. Neither
do the Surrendercrats. Their role is to whimper and wring
their hands every time a bomb goes off. That is their assignment as directed by al-Qaeda."

The terrorists don't care about the people, they don't care about Islam and they don't care about Iraq. What they do care about is power and control. America is offering Iraq freedom and democracy and this scares the terrorists who know that all they have to offer is fear and hatred. Iraqi's are turning against the terrorists because they understand where their interests lay.

Watching Those We Chose: It isn't the sex, or even the corruption, it's the hypocrisy

Watching Those We Chose: It isn't the sex, or even the corruption, it's the hypocrisy:

"'This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely
responsible,' Vitter
said in the statement. 'Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness
from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for
my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there -- with God and them.
But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed
and let down in any way.' "

While I understand and defend his right to keep the details of the matter to himself and those involved, I do think that he should be investigated, any charges that are appropriate should be filed and he should lose his seat. When it was President Clinton who had an affair the dogs on the right could not stop howling for him to be kicked out of office. Lets see if they can go after one of their own with such zeal.

Pope Declares Catholicism The One True Christian Religion - TalkLeft: The Politics Of Crime

Pope Declares Catholicism The One True Christian Religion - TalkLeft: The Politics Of Crime:

"The Vatican set itself on a collision course with other Christian faiths
Tuesday, reaffirming the primacy of the Roman Catholic Church in a corrective
document which it said was designed to clear up recent 'erroneous' doctrine. The
document's central claim, that only the Catholic Church is 'the one true Church
of Christ', is likely to revive a debate which has dogged the Vatican's
relationship with rival Christian denominations for decades."

At a time when the world is facing the risks from extremists of all brands, the last thing that we need is division to be promoted inside the Christian faith. It is sad to see the Pope make this statement, beliefs like this have caused an unknown amount of blood shed through history. It is beliefs like this that set Sunni and Shia at each others throats in Iraq. What the world needs is tolerance, from all religions.

Wanted: A Pakistan Permission Slip To Attack Al Qaida - TalkLeft: The Politics Of Crime

Wanted: A Pakistan Permission Slip To Attack Al Qaida - TalkLeft: The Politics Of Crime:

"A secret military operation in early 2005 to capture senior members of Al Qaeda in Pakistan’s tribal areas was aborted at the last minute after top Bush administration
officials decided it was too risky and could jeopardize relations with Pakistan,
according to intelligence and military officials.
The target was a meeting of Qaeda leaders that intelligence officials thought included Ayman al-Zawahri, Osama bin Laden’s top deputy and the man believed to run the terrorist group’s operations. But the mission was called off after Donald H. Rumsfeld, then the defense secretary, rejected the 11th-hour appeal of Porter J. Goss, then the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, officials said. Members of a Navy Seals unit in parachute gear had already boarded C-130 cargo planes in Afghanistan when the mission was canceled, said a former senior intelligence official involved in the
planning."

This move has prompted a lot of critism from blogs on the right. There seems to be the feeling that we should have entered Pakistan with no interest for the fact that we would be violating an international boundary. What they are over looking is the question, would getting Zawahri be worth the instability and the potential downfall of the president of Pakistan. Would it be worth some of the most extreme muslim groups in the world getting their hands on nuclear weapons. I don't think it was worth the risk, and I think that they made a smart move in not going into Pakistan.
