The Fashionista's

It is time for my wrap up of the last issue that watched, again I am sure that some of you have seen this episode and many after.

Rachel, well I think she is starting to get a little crush on Andrew. She was working on her story about the people killed by the truck most of the show. While I am sure that it was a dramatic experience, I can't help but laugh at her and some of her response to it. To be fair I don't think I have ever been in a situation like that. I am not being critical, it just strikes me as funny. She worked hard on the story and went back to the scene with one of the editors. They told her that she would get published.

Andrew has been working on his story about frat guys. He did an interview with two guys about things that happen. He said he wanted to write a story about things that girls would want to know but guys wouldn't want to tell them. I don't know that I would have been as open about it. The story was approved by the editors, they said that it needed a little more work though. He has been making an effort to get more familiar with the magazine. Rachel who loves the mag came over to his house and they went through a bunch of old issues together. I still think that he is a player, and if he gets a chance with Rachel he'll take it. He didn't have much interaction with Bridgette this show so it isn't clear what is going on there.

Nicole is done, that is all I want to say, she spend most of the show last time at home. She did some work this time but she was still being a whinny ass bitch. This is the real world, get used to it. She told Bridgette that she thought that Bridgette was the fakest person that she ever met, and that she thought that fashion was fake. Which is confusing because later in the show she said that she still loved fashion. She had been asked to tell Mandie why she should be allowed to keep working, and she came back with a list of things that didn't make any sense. After going through the list, she said that this wasn't the right job for her. She is so bent on beind real, as if there is a choice between real and fake. The choice is the way you express yourself, and the way you work with others. Understanding how to work with and talk to others doesn't make you less real, it makes you an adult.

Monkey.... oops I mean Bridgette played a relatively small role in this episode. She responded to Nicole by telling her that she was disappointed that she hadn't been there to help her more. She earned my respect a little when all the assistants were at a club talking. Bridgette was asked why she looked upset. She just said that she was tired and had been working hard - no mention of Nicole. Nicole then started talking about how she had a problem with Bridgette. Bridgette showed she has some brains by pointing out that Nicoles problem was not Bridgette but something bigger. Aside from the conflict with Nicole there wasn't much going on with Bridgette in this episode. At her eval she was praised by Mandie - who says she can't be nice.

Janjay was almost completely absent from this episode. Not much was happening at flirt, and this show focused more on some drama that Tina got herself into. She has remained a strong person, and a positive force in the group. At the meeting where Nicole was talking about her problem with Bridgette Janjay tried to encourage her and inspire her. Not to much avail. At the end of the show Kathleen wasn't happy that when she checked both the girls make-up bags she found make up from other companies.

Tina... got a dress dirty. It apparently was a really small stain, though to big for Tina and Kathleen. The dress had been loaned to Tina by Kathleen, it was a sample dress that had been loaned to Flirt by the designer. It is understandable that they would be upset that the dress was damaged, but Tina was upfront about it, and took responsibility for it happening and repairing the damage - which it was. The question I have is that anytime you take a dress out of a plastic bag you have to know that something can happen to it. The stain was small, it didn't appear to be the result of negligence on Tina's part. If Flirt is so concerned about the dresses not being damaged at all, they shouldn't loan out the dresses. If the designer is so concerned, they shouldn't loan out the dresses. There is damage and there is effects of use in my book - and Tina's stain was effects of use to me. Kathleen told her she was upset with her.

We got to know Kathleen a little more this episode. She is a sweet person, the kind of sweet person that still expects a lot from the people she works with. It is easier sometimes when a person is sweet than when they act like Mandie, to remember that you are still expected to meet strict standards. Standards like making sure all of your cosmetics are Flirt brand. It is too soon to tell if the dress damage is going to effect how Tina does on the show.

I don't understand how 24 hours of this mans life is worth the hell that he put the accused men through for years while this case progressed and years to come. How does it make up for the racial tensions that were stoked in the community and in the nation.

ABC News: Aviator's Disappearance Remains Mystery:

"Pilots brushed off a series of false sightings and scoured Nevada's high desert

Everyone is continuing to hope that he is found alive, found safe. After a few days it gets harder to believe that they are ever going to come out of it alive. If an old lady can make it in the wilderness of Oregon for two weeks, Fossett can make it. Unless he was killed in the crash.

"Just when you thought the Norman Hsu saga couldn’t get any weirder, a

Is there a racist aspect to these charges, and this story getting so much attention in the media. Is it because Hilary is the front runner in the race, that her donors are being scrutinised.

In the end I think that this isn't going to harm Hilary that much. She has a base of people who are going to support her to the end. She would have to be caught in bed with President Bush - literally, before they would turn on her. For my part it makes me doubt that she can bring the change to Washington that she proclaims to represent. The general population isn't going to understand this scandal, and what people don't understand they put out of their minds.

Talk To Action | Reclaiming Citizenship, History, and Faith

Talk To Action Reclaiming Citizenship, History, and Faith:

"So instead, our Democratic contenders for President talk about a 'woman's right
to choose' and how abortions should be prevented. They want to make abortion
'rare,' which I suspect hides their real wish - that the abortion issue would
just disappear and stop ickying up their campaigns. There's virtually no
recognition of the fact that abortion care is already rare in this country, and
getting rarer. Poor women and teenagers in particular have already had their
'right to choose' taken away, thanks to numerous and onerous state and federal
restrictions passed over the years, including the Hyde Amendment that gutted
abortion funding."

I have to agree that I want it to go away, really who wants to talk about such things. There are a number of fears that I have related to the abortion issue. One is that if and when they take down abortion, they are not going to stop. Their concern is not for the life of the child, they are using the image and idea of the life of the child to promote their social agenda of control. Their next target is going to be to take down all forms of birth control. As one person on the right has said, it makes sex just a form of using people for your own pleasure.

This is an important womyns health issue, it is an important humyn health issue as well. The reason I strongly believe that they do not care about the life of the baby, is that they stop caring once it is born.

lgf: Canada Allows Voting in Disguise

lgf: Canada Allows Voting in Disguise:

"Veiled women will be able to vote in the upcoming Quebec byelections — and all
future federal contests — without showing their faces, Elections Canada says.
“It applies throughout the country,” said spokesman John Enright. “It applies to
all federal elections, byelections and referendums.”"

I think that this is crossing the line from multi-culturalism and being an inclusive society into dangerous territory. If they do not have to show their faces, how are they going to show that they are who they are. Elections are the back bone of any democracy, and the threat that unknown people taking part is too great. The little old lady in front on you under that veil, maybe a teenage operative waiting to explode a bomb in the polling station.

It is clear to me, that these people are guest in the nations that they come to. They should be treated with respect and kindness, they should also be expected to play by the same rules as everyone else.

Gates of Vienna: The Muslim World Should Boycott Sweden

Gates of Vienna: The Muslim World Should Boycott Sweden

The Swedish newspaper, Nerikes Allehanda, claims that they were just exercising
their right to freedom of expression and refuses to apologise.
But freedom of expression does not mean that you insult the most beloved Prophet of Islam
and slap the faces of over 1.6 billion Muslims worldwide. This latest insult is
not freedom of expression. It is an all-out provocation.

Saying that free speech isn't free speech because it is provocative is lazy and disingenuous. Free speech doesn't exist for speech that everyone accepts, it exists for the voices that are disturbing and provocative. It exists because sometimes it is small groups of people that have to come forward with a truth that the greater population in either unaware of are afraid of.

The article linked to is not the editorial - though it is linked from there. It has more details about the editorial.

Daily Kos: Dodd: End Cuba Embargo

Daily Kos: Dodd: End Cuba Embargo:

"Presidential hopeful Chris Dodd would end a decades-old trade embargo with Cuba
and lift travel restrictions to the island if elected, he said Saturday. The
Democratic senator from Connecticut also said he would open an embassy in Havana
and shut down TV Marti, a U.S. government-run television station that broadcasts
to Cuba. 'Other than the war in Iraq, no other American policy is more broadly
unpopular internationally,' Dodd said of the United States' policy toward Cuba."

I don't support shutting down the TV station, but opening trade with Cuba makes sense. Cuba will fall in the same way that China is falling into capitalism, and global markets. It happens because communism is based on a flawed foundation. When people are given access to more consumer goods, they are going to want more consumer goods. That is going to increase the demand for income. There are many people in all countries who find that they just can't make the income they want working for others. They start their own business, the rise of small business in Cuba will lead to a population that is more concerned about taxes and the spending of government money - money they worked hard for. The denial of small business itself would result in rising tensions, if that were the case. These tensions and desire to effect government will force the government into allowing free speech, or total repression.

Once voters gain power of the machinery of government they will start to take it apart. In the end will it look like America, I doubt it, but it will be open to the world in ways that it isn't now. It will be free in ways that it isn't now.

Daily Kos: OR-Sen: Be Careful What You Wish For

Daily Kos: OR-Sen: Be Careful What You Wish For:

"In the wake of Sen. Larry Craig's swift downfall, Sen. Gordon Smith says
he is ready to be the new go-to guy in the U.S. Senate for timber and other
Northwest natural-resource industries. Smith, R-Ore., said he feels 'very keenly
the responsibility' to help not only loggers, but ranchers, farmers and miners.
'My plate just got bigger,' Smith said in a telephone interview Tuesday, 'and I
will work day and night for rural folks.'"

This statement is clearly poorly worded, and if it had been said better would have been easier to understand. If anyone said that they were going to have to work harder to represent the interests of labor in congress, everyone would cheer. What he is saying is that he is going to have to work harder to represent the interests of industry in congress. There are some who act like industry doesn't deserve to have its interests defended, but that is just silly. Do they have the right to buy votes, no - but then neither do parties that represent the left. To assume that all corruption in Washington comes from corporations and industry is just naive.

What if the goal of this video and its message was not to put a message out there about either party, rather it was about division. Bin Laden is a smart man, he must have known that if he puts out a message that mirrors the language of the left, that it would touch off a battle between the left and the right about the war on terror. What this country needs right now more than anything is unity, not the unity of agreement of practice, but the unity of goals. We need to understand that we can and should be working together to over come these problems. Bin Laden seems to understand that if we don't work together we will fail, why don't our politicians understand that.

Atlas Shrugs: Iran Guilty: Attacked America in 1983

Atlas Shrugs: Iran Guilty: Attacked America in 1983:

"Finally, official recognition that Iran declared war on America back in '
83 when they murdered 241 Marines in Beirut in what was the single largest non
nuclear explosion since World War II. I thought Reagan was wrong then, and I
still think he was wrong. Whether he understood Islamic jihad or not, we were
attacked and he should have responded with unforgiving force. FACT. We wouldn't
be in the straits we are in now incapable of defining ourselves, icapable of
defending our Western beliefs, and spastic in our approach to winning this war
with an enemy who has nothing, NOTHING, except self confidence and a very real
understanding of who they are. Pure evil."

Was Regan wrong? There has been much finger pointing to the Clinton administration and the way it responded to threats around the world. Many times conflicting with ideas that were popular with the Republicans at the time, like regarding the withdrawal of troops from Somalia. However, the mother of all attacks on America, the country and the conflict where the suicide bomber matured as a weapon and one of the greatest attacks against America, was under Regan in Lebanon. Was this where the message was sent to the world, that if we are wounded we will retreat? What would the world be like today if Regan had pushed on in Lebanon and went after what was then a much weaker Iran?

I don't know the answers, but it is interesting to think about.

A Blog For All: St. Rita's Nursing Home Owners Acquitted:

"After a trial that saw prosecutors put on more than 40 witnesses, including
Gov. Kathleen Blanco, a jury took four hours to acquit the owners of St. Rita's
Nursing Home of 35 counts of negligent homicide and 24 counts of cruelty to the
elderly or infirm when Hurricane Katrina came ashore and the entire area was
flooded out."

Their defense amounted to saying though they were warned about the storm, they had ridden out storms in the past. They laid the blame on the levees, saying that if the levees had not failed, none of them would have died. I understand their argument, but it seems to be based on the idea that just because they were safe in the past, they didn't need to take more caution than they did. That seems like a poor idea, it could be said that just because they were lucky in the past.

I think this is a poor choice for the show, I think that having three comedians on the show is going to bring down the quality of the discussion.
