Cop Pulls Out Gun On Motorcyclist

You can skip to 3 mins in... I have questions about the true nature of the encounter after watching the video. In it you see a marked police car behind him, at one point before he is stopped he looks back. If he was being chased before the stop, it would put things in a different light.
That being said, it does not change the fact he shouldn't have been punished for recording the stop, and the police treatment of him following the stop itself is inexcusable.

This is just wrong in so many ways...

The officer was in an un-marked car, in plain clothes. He gets out and brandishes a weapon, while yelling at the victim. The man, who had no criminal record had his life torn apart for no reason, this smells like police terror and intimidation tactics to me.

If anyone should be going to jail it is the officer involved in this case.

This is nuts... Police should be recorded.

If anyone needs to be video taped, it is the police. I say people should do it more often, not less. I also think laws should encourage the taping of police encounters. They are often dangerous, and often the events of them are disputed. Video tape of police events will encourage good cops to be good cops and help remove the bad cops.

On a side note, I bet no officer is going to complain in a case where an abuse claim is made, but the video proves it to be false.

So a rapist walks free...

Because there might be a problem with the request, but they can't find one. Sounds like bogus logic to me, like they were looking for a problem and couldn't find one. If they really want to keep him, they can have him.

Every breath you take, they'll be watching you...

This could be a good thing for law enforcement and the public. There are doubtlessly circumstances where police are wrongly accused for taking actions that were reasonable. As the clip below points out, it could serve to keep officer behavior in line, knowing it will be on camera.

However, an important tool that isn't mentioned in the story is a citizen police review board. It is easy for a group of officers to sit around and justify what others might see as abusive behavior. What is needed is a group of citizens, who can review the video, and respond to complaints. Such a body removed from the structure of the department is less likely to overlook abuse, and will give citizens a real feeling police work for them, not to control them.

In many cases, the mere presence of the camera can change the interaction between police and the public. “Just the awareness of being recorded [means officers are] a little more careful they are maintaining policy,” Mr. Fergus says.

I say charge the parents

This is so heart breaking, how can someone do this to a child. The last video they show of her, she was skipping down the street alone. Where the hell were her parents, and why would they allow and eight-year-old girl to wonder around town alone. They should be charged with child endangerment. It sounds harsh, but I really think that parents need to be held accountable for watching their children better. I don't say this to in any way undermine the depth of the crime, and the punishment who ever did this to this girl.
