Are You Surprised About Paris? POPSUGAR - Celebrity Gossip & News.:

"We polled about Paris a couple of times in the past few weeks and you guys said
that you wouldn't tune in to her first interview and that you still can't stand
her. However, actions speak louder than votes and Larry King's audience was
tripled for his interview with Paris. Are you surprised that so many people
tuned in?"

For all the people who talk about not liking Paris, and saying they don't care about her or her story, a whole lot of people tuned in to listen to it on Larry King. Paris is only bigger than ever thanks to this.

Bush To Iraq: Use Israel As A Model For Democracy Air America Radio:

"Yesterday, Bush said at the U.S. Naval War College, 'In places like
Israel, terrorists have taken innocent human life for years in suicide
attacks…The difference is that Israel is a functioning democracy and it's not
prevented from carrying out its responsibilities. And that's a good indicator of
success that we're looking for in Iraq.' Citing Israel, Bush suggested that in
order to define success in Iraq, we should look at Israel’s model."

While I understand that they hate Israel, it is a strong democracy. I think it is interesting that he pointed to Israel, and not to America as a model.

Bush Admin Wants To Extend September Deadline | Air America Radio

Bush Admin Wants To Extend September Deadline Air America Radio:

"Mr. Warner said that July 15, when a Congressionally mandated, preliminary
report on the progress in Iraq is due, would be pivotal. The White House has
been hoping for far more time, even backing away from its earlier statements
that September would be a fair deadline to start judging the results of the new
war plan.”"

While I think it is important to hold to the time table for a report to be done in September, I think that the reviewing committee should be open minded enough to see progress and not expect finality. It would be a shame for the surge to gain control of a vast majority of Iraq, and then be declared a failure and the troops pulled because it wasn't done. In September, if more time is needed, and the surge is showing itself to be a success I think more time should be given. We are not talking about baking bread, we are talking about nation building, and the results can be far more tragic that bread that has been baked too long.

having an affair with Cameron Diaz. According to the New York Post, Sarantakos
is planning to have Diaz subpoenaed to testify about her relationship with Angel
in New York's Supreme Court on Long Island. Reportedly, Sarantakos is alleging
mental cruelty and abandonment. Her attorney, Dominic Barbara says Criss kept
his wife of five years a secret to increase his sex appeal among female fans.
Angel's lawyer, Elliot Weiner, didn't deny the allegation of adultery."

Wow, this guy had a secret wife, was she invisible? That really is magic. As for poor Cameroon, she should just blame him for the bag she wore in Peru and walk away. This girl is a magnet for scandal it appears.

I have just heard from a reliable source in Denmark that the burning did

The Strata-Sphere » Blog Archive » Al-Qaeda Left With The Gaza Strip:

"Gaza is a hell hole of barren lands that requires massive, constant
humanitarian support. I would not call gaining Gaza a victory, except it does
allow for attacks to be launched against Isreal. It appears that Palestinian
President Abbas and his Fatah movement understand the implications of a
Palestinian war on Israel since they have now decided to take on Hamas and their
version of al-Qaeda’s Islamo Fascism. As the article notes the new front on
Terror will be Lebanon and the Palestinian territories. "

It looks like the conflict in Gaza, that erupted between Fatah and Gaza has given Al Qaeda an entrance to expand operations in Gaza. With increased co-operation between the Americans and Iraqis to drive them out of Iraq, they are seeking for a new base to operate from.

This excuse has always reminded me of the kid who took his ball and went home because he wasn't winning, or didn't like the rules. Why not stay in the game, use the game to try and assert your ideas, and maybe work to change the rules you think are unfair. If you leave the game, you can do none of these things. What do you gain, you look silly and obstinate.

Why does this remind me of when Britney Spears said that her child was in the car seat backwards, because he liked to ride that way. Babies and dogs shouldn't either be the final judge on what is appropriate for them, nor scapegoats for bad choices made by others.

Half of Baghdad now under control - USATODAY.com:

"WASHINGTON — In the face of stiffening insurgent resistance, U.S. and Iraqi
security forces now control about half of Baghdad, the American commander
overseeing operations said Friday.
Maj. Gen. Joseph F. Fil, Jr., commander
of Multi-National Division Baghdad, told reporters at the Pentagon that progress
in securing the capital has been steady and that while he could use more U.S.
troops he believes he has enough — with the recent arrival of reinforcements —
to complete his mission."

Sounds to me like the surge is reaching the goal of attempting to secure the capital. No one believed it would be easy, but it looks like it is working. They fighting is going to get more intense, if only because the terrorists have less room to move, and are being boxed in. I think that if American and Iraqi troops can secure and hold the capital, the troops should start coming home soon after.

Watching Those We Chose: Pelosi's " Greening of the Capitol" Plan Moves Forward:

"Two key tenets of the initiative — purchasing credits to offset the Capitol’s
carbon-dioxide emissions and eliminating the use of coal to fuel the Capitol
power plant — are included in the spending bill.

Such changes will
ensure that the Capitol “will no longer be just a shining example of democracy
but a symbol of our commitment to the future,” Pelosi, D-Calif., said June 21
when she released details of the initiative. "

While there are clearly weaknesses to this plan, it is good to see it being discussed. Solutions to the big problems in life rarely come from the first attempt to work them out. It wasn't our first attempt to reach the stars that was a success. However it is the things we learn from our first steps in reaching a solution that enable us to reach better and better solutions in the future. This is an issue that is going to have to be addressed, either on a global warming basis, or a simple energy supply in a world of growing demand and shrinking supply model.

MotherJones.com | MoJoBlog - Social Issues and Political Commentary: Redoing the Primary System: Rotating Regionals?

MotherJones.com MoJoBlog - Social Issues and Political Commentary: Redoing the Primary System: Rotating Regionals?:

"Alexander said the model for federal legislation is based on a 1999 bill that
Lieberman co-wrote that would have created a regional primary system. That bill
would have created a system of four rotating regions, with a cluster of 13
mid-Atlantic and Northeast states voting on the first Tuesday of March, with a
southern group of states going the first Tuesday of April, a Midwest group the
first Tuesday of May and a Mountain West and far West group going last, the
first Tuesday of June.
The next election, the order would be rotated so that
no region would always go first. That bill, which was referred to the Senate
Rules and Administration Committee, went nowhere legislatively speaking."

Why is it that Americans can't change to the metric system, why is it that we can sit around all day and talk about how we know that something doesn't work and not fix it. The metric system has been around for years, and there is always talk about America changing over, at some point, but it doesn't. Why is it that when a good idea comes forward, we can't change our path from what it has been to what is clearly a better system. This rotating regional idea is the best idea I have ever seen for changing the primary system. The way it is now is just insane, to have to campaign for a primary in a state on the east coast and the west coast on the same day - of course you are going to have to focus on one more than the other.

There are so many ways that this could be better. Think about the fuel that could be saved, if candidates could focus on one region at a time, that region would get more attention and the candidates wouldn't have to fly back and forth across the country. In the time that each candidate has to appeal to each region, they can focus more on the needs of that region. If you are doing a national campaign, with a broken primary system like we have now, you are wasting your time by discussing ideas that have a regional appeal.

The final kicker for me is that it would rotate, what is driving the primaries earlier and earlier is the impression that those who have the early primaries get more attention. Rotating would mean that each election cycle would favor a different region.

I know how these tabloids work, when a couple meet for the first time the rumors of a relationship begin, after a couple weeks the rumors of a marriage begin. When they do get married the rumors of the kids begin (sometimes this comes before the marriage rumors). After they have had kids, been married, the rumors start of cheating and divorce. After the divorce the rumors start going around that they will be getting back together. Of course if they did, rumors of a second divorce would begin.

That being said, it could be a good thing for her and the kids if this turned out to be true.

Tigre e la neve, La (2005): Tiger and The Snow

"This film seems to be made for Roberto Benigni's fans. If you didn't like
his previous films, don't bother with this one. The other comment that must be
made is: this is not 'Life is Beautiful'. That film was simply wonderful, and I
don't think it will ever find a match. Regardless this issue, 'La tigre e la
neve' is a very good movie. Benigni continues to show his amazing ability in
order to mix comedy with drama, making the story very interesting and enjoyable.
As a negative issue, we can point out that Benigni is a bit repetitive (it's his
way of communicating), and might be a bit annoying for some people. The plot is
quite simple: a man discovers that the woman he loves is seriously injured in a
hospital in Baghdad, during American invasion in '03. He decides to travel to
Iraq in order to help his loved one. The film has a good script, and is
adequately seasoned with very good photography, music, and an unavoidable
message of hope. Highly recommended for people looking for a story plenty of
romanticism with a conceptually brilliant ending. "

Just watched this movie on Netflix, and it is a beautiful movie. It is Italian, with subtitles, but it is well worth the extra effort. Watch it with that special someone in your life.

impotent laws? Side with the Amnesty Hypochondriacs in the GOP because if they
succeed and tank the immigration Bill in the Senate there will be no new
legislation on this issue for the remainder of Bush’s term and well into the

second term on immigration reform?)."

I have heard this said a number of times and I don't like it. I don't think that we should settle on a solution because those who are giving us the solution claim that if we don't take it they won't give us another one for ten years. The bill should be voted on based on its merits, not on the manipulative skill of its backers.

Marginal Revolution: Immigration enforcement ideas

Marginal Revolution: Immigration enforcement ideas:

"The implicit model is that once people have spent money for an asset they
value that asset more than they would value their prospective income stream from
living in the United States. Jane postulates a kind of endowment effect for
immigrants. Moving away from family-based immigration also limits potential
trustable allies for law-breaking.
I suspect that auction-based proposals
will result in too few legal unskilled immigrants, and also more illegal
immigration of the unskilled, but I would not rule out this idea just yet. I'm
still waiting for someone to write down an impossibility theorem for a good
immigration policy, noting that much of the domestic demand is for immigrant
traits (e.g., cheapness and immediate readiness to work) which are strongly
correlated with illegality. That is some employers want (explicitly or
implicitly) to deny some of their workers the benefits of integrating with the
U.S. capital stock. "

Without agreement, I think that these are some interesting ideas and it does raise a good point. If a system is created to make immigrants legal, will the people who hire them even want to employ them anymore. If a system is set up where they will be treated fairly, why not hire an American if you are not going to get a worker you can abuse. I know this has a negative assumption to it, but there is reason to believe that illegal workers are cheap because they are illegal, and they are hired because they are cheap, which means they are hired because they are illegal.

Patriotism is a lively sense of collective responsibility. Nationalism is a

Rudy's New SC Co-Chair Has History Of "Racially Charged" Remarks | TPMCafe

Rudy's New SC Co-Chair Has History Of "Racially Charged" Remarks TPMCafe:

"On October 18, 2006 The Post and Courier of Charleston, SC wrote ' Arthur
Ravenel Jr., who is running for an East Cooper seat on the board, caught flack
16 years ago when he was in Congress and made a comment about white committee
chairmen who operated on 'black time,' which he said meant fashionably late.'
As recently as January 2000, the Post and Courier reported in an article
headlined 'Ravenel stepped outside 'civility,'' that Ravenel called the NAACP
the 'National Association For Retarded People.'
When asked about the comment
in the story, Ravenel said that he misspoke. 'It was a slip of the tongue. I
have never said the NAACP was retarded,' he told the Post and Courier. 'I made a
rhetorical slip, and they want to lynch me for it.'"

Breaking news, Rudy has fired a cocaine addict and hired his racist father to run his campaign in South Carolina. Really his campaign is about as professional as the cast of The Real World, on MTV. The next thing is that one of them will be charged with rape.

This is the second person that Bush has run out of the party. I think that Froelich, a person I don't know much about, makes some good points about the abuse of power by this administration. There can be a million proper reasons, and actions to take, but if the actions you take are done so through abusing power and skirting the system, I can't justify any ends. The ends in fact do not justify the means, the means corrupt the ends.

Dick "Robust Interrogation" Cheney unplugged and exposed. - AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth

Dick "Robust Interrogation" Cheney unplugged and exposed. - AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth:

"The Washington Post is doing an in-depth series on Dick Cheney this week. The
first article, about how Cheney secured his power, ran yesterday. Today's piece
is about Cheney's role in crafting our nation's torture policy or what he
apparently called 'robust interrogation.' Reading these articles is intense. As
bad as many of us thought Cheney was and is -- he's worse. This man, and the
President who has enabled him, have seriously undermined the country -- and the
constitution they swore to uphold:"

Some interesting facts are coming out about Cheney and the role he has played in this Administration. I think history may look back at this moment and instead of calling it the second Bush administration will call it the Cheney administration. He is clearly the source and the enactment of power in this White House. Read the article for more information.

Sunni tribes fighting al Qaeda in Anbar, so . . . wait, what's that? Uh oh . . . - AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth:

"This story from al-Malaf is currently the talk of the forums: Sitar Abu
Risha, head of the Anbar Salvation Council, has allegedly fled Iraq with $75
million that the Americans had given him to fight al-Qaeda. The story links his
flight to the near-collapse of the Anbar Salvation Council over infighting among
its leadership [and] claims that he simply never distributed the American cash
to the fighters, who are now threatening to go on strike if they don't get paid.
Seeing as how the Anbar Salvation Council has for months now been portrayed as
the great American hope in the battle against al-Qaeda, if this story turns out
to be true - a big if, given the shaky sourcing to this point - then it would be
a rather embarrassing fiasco."

I hope that this story turns out to be false. I have supported the movement to work with the tribes against the terrorists in Iraq. While there are ways to continue to move forward if this story is accurate, it is a blow against the co-operation with the Iraqi tribes.

McCain supporter does ad for Obama - AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth:

"Ouch for McCain. Obama came out with some campaign ads today that are
quite nice. In the first, entitled 'Carry,' two Illinois state politicians
praise Obama. The first is Republican state Senator Kirk Dillard."

An interesting twist in this race, to see a supporter cross ranks from a republican candidate to supporting a democratic candidate. I think that both Obama and McCain are slipping in the race though, so this persons support might not mean much to either one of them.

Ex-E.P.A. Chief Testifies on 9/11 Role - New York Times

Ex-E.P.A. Chief Testifies on 9/11 Role - New York Times:

"Rep. Jerrold Nadler, a Democrat whose district includes the World Trade Center
site, called the hearing after years of criticizing federal officials for what
he says was a negligent and incomplete cleanup after the Sept. 11, 2001,
attacks.
He opened the session by saying the Bush administration 'has
continued to make false, misleading and inaccurate statements, and refused to
take remedial actions, even in the face of overwhelming evidence.'
Whitman,
the main focus of much of that criticism, called such allegations
'misinformation, innuendo and downright falsehoods.'
She has insisted for
years that her statements that the 'air is safe' were aimed at those living and
working near ground zero, not those who actually toiled on the toxic pile. Her
agency, she has said, repeatedly warned that rescue and recovery workers needed
to wear protective gear."

Do we really need another scandal, I am so over this habit of one party attacking the other with petty scandals. I think the democracy is sinking and the two parties are fighting over who is going to pay their shared bar tab.

As for this example, we were faced with an attack the nature of which had never happened before, mistakes were made. Why does everything have to be turned into something criminal. What would be the motivation of the administration to lie to the public on this. You think the administration wanted for people to get sick and die from exposure to these elements?

Paris Hilton Leaves Jail - Paris Hilton : People.com:

"Beaming for the cameras, Paris Hilton walked out of jail Tuesday morning after
serving what she has called a life-changing sentence for violating probation in
an alcohol-related driving case.

Shortly after midnight, a smiling
Hilton – her hair in a long ponytail and wearing an olive jacket, white shirt
and jeans – was escorted by deputies out of the jail complex's door. She waved
to a crowd of nearly 200 reporters, photographers and others, and walked up to a
waiting Escalade carrying her parents. "

Now we begin to see if she is going to change her life as she has said, or if she is going to go back to the clubs and the parties of her pre-jail life.

Mom Says Lindsay Will Do 'Extended Care' Program - Lindsay Lohan : People.com:

going to do Promises' extended care program.'

The program, according to
Promises' Web site, is designed to help people 'make the transition from

includes a 12-step program and group therapy. "

It looks like another fact pointing to the seriousness of which Lindsay is planning on taking the change in her life. She can turn her life around, and turn herself into a real star, she could be the next Drew Barrymore.

"“They just recently broke up. It’s totally and completely over,” a
source in Witherspoon’s circle tells PEOPLE.
“Reese was the one who had to
do it,” says the source. “She just got out of a divorce and was so concerned
with her family, she just didn’t have the time for him and he really demanded
that.”"

When you get out of a marriage, you don't want to settle down right away, you need to take time for yourself. Reese has kids, which means that not only does she have to take care of herself before she can get into a serious relationship, she has to think about her kids. This news really shouldn't be a shock to anyone.

This is really silly. The story is that while she was in Peru, she had a hand bag with a red star and Chinese writing on it. It offended the people of Peru, who had a similar movement to Maoist China, that set off a devastating civil war. It was a simple mistake.

Yeah I don't buy it. I think I smell some sour grapes. Well who wanted to get all the ratings by interviewing that tart anyways. Who cares about bringing in more viewers by having that slut on the show. We never really cared about that bimbo anyways, we just talked about her and her phone calls because we were bored.

"The World War II drama focuses on a plan to assassinate Adolph Hitler, but
despite the German theme, the crew will not be able to film on German bases.
While they have not received official requests on the project, Harald
Kammerbauer, a Defense Ministry spokesman told Reuters, Cruise's faith is behind
their decision to refuse to allow filming in the locales."

Sounds like someone over there is Germany doesn't think it would be a good idea to have members of a cult hanging around their military bases. It could of course be, that they know that the movie can't go forward without Tom. It wouldn't be a reach to suggest that a new movie about the horrors of the second world war, one that focuses on a back stabbing German general, wouldn't strike their favor.

"The star will appear in the commercials for the company’s latest game More
Brain Training From Dr. Kawashima, which are due to be screened in the U.K. on
Monday Kidman says, “I love the concept.”"

She is not the first person I would have thought of to promote the brand, but often I think it is when a brand brings in a person that doesn't seem likely to be connected to it that works best. She is a beautiful womyn, and if this means we will see more of her, then it is good news.

On her
video blog over the weekend, Ro called the gig “a fantasy childhood indulgence,”
and explained that she asked CBS to let her tape multiple episodes on the days

This is proof that one there is a god, and two that someone over at CBS has a brain and understood how bad the show would be with Rosie on it. Now it looks like Drew Carey, who I think would be great.

Justin Timberlake Is Pissy in Sweden

A Socialite's Life: Justin Timberlake Is Pissy in Sweden

"A Swedish news source reports that Justin Timberlake wasn't acting too
fan-friendly when he stopped by the country along his world tour. The source
claims that Timberlake had responded to a picture request from a young girl by
saying, 'You want me to juggle also?' And later that day, the pop sensation
would not pose for pictures with fans and allegedly 'threw missiles at fans from
the roof of his hotel and even spat at them.' I have no idea what 'missiles'
means, but my curiosity has successfully been aroused. In return, fans started
calling Justin a 'fuckface,' and Timberlake snapped back, 'You're calling me a
fuckface? Go fuck yourself!'"

This is far from the first time he has shown a hatred for his fans, and for the media who act to give his fans access to him. I don't even know why he has any fans, who wants to be treated like that. It isn't like his music is really that good, well I don't think it is.

celebrity nation: Xtina to launch film career:

"Christina Aguilera has revealed plans for an acting career. The Candy Man
singer says she's reading scripts in search of the right role to break into
film. 'I am looking forward to moving into another form of what I feel is
another creative outlet for me and that would be acting,' Aguilera told
reporters in Shanghai today. 'It is something that, when I attempt to do it, I
want to do it right so it's important for me that I choose the right first role
for myself.'"

While I wish her luck, I think we have seen that very few are able to cross the line from actress to singer, or from singer to actress. Maybe she will have what it takes, to be honest I don't know that much about Christina. I think that the problem that many of them run into when going from singing to acting, is the parts they take. A real actor will take a part that challenges them as actors. Singers normally take parts that seem like extensions of who they already are.

While this isn't the proclamation that some are making it out to be that Britney is not going to be in the show, it does raise doubts. To be honest I had a hard time imagining why Lauper would want Britney to be on her tour. I think it would be great for Britney, who needs to get her fans to see her as a performer again. However what does it hold for Lauper. We shall see if this turns out to be true or not.

Brian Grazer, who won an Oscar for 'A Beautiful Mind,' will be producing a
feature length film chronicling Hugh Hefner's life. Hefner, 81, reportedly

Like him or not he has had a profound effect on American, and as such an effect on global culture like few others in history have had. The way he started his business is actually rather interesting, and the goals he had when he started as well. It isn't as simple as many people would think. I have come across some of the details, but you can see them in the movie.

Paris To Build Halfway House For Released Convicts

A Socialite's Life: Paris To Build Halfway House For Released Convicts

"Hilton tells Seacrest that she hopes to build a 'transitional home' to help
women when they are released from jail. 'These women just keep coming back
because they have no place to go,' she explains.
Hilton says the home can be
'a place to get food and clothes on their backs,' continuing that the recidivism
rate is 'a really bad cycle and if we stop it now, we can make our community a
better place.'"

There are moments and there are times in peoples lives where events that could not be predicted have effects that would not have been predicted. It looks like Hilton is at one of those points in her life, and if she is serious about what she is saying this could mean a change of heart, and a change of direction for her life. At any rate it will be good to see her out of jail, and on with the rest of her life. I doubt the girl that we have known for so long will be gone, but maybe she really has learned something.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Blames 9-11 on Ronald Reagan and Fuel Efficiency Standards NewsBusters.org:

"If we had left those fuel economy standards intact, Ronald Reagan
rolled them back, we would not have had to import one drop of oil after 1986.
Think of what that would have done to our history. The World Trade Center would
probably still be standing. We would have avoided two Gulf Wars. We would be a
prosperous nation. We wouldn’t be bound down in this Mesopotamian quagmire that
has destroyed our reputation and destroyed the reputation of democracy across
the globe."

This is crazy. I harshly question the logic that is being put forward by this argument. I think that if the gas mileage was lowered, or is lowered, it will increase the distance that people drive. This means that the usage of gas would not be drastically lowered, or kept low in a meaningful way. The logic is also based on the idea that if we were not involved in the region for oil reasons, they would not attack us, which I don't believe.
