On Iraq: The Mythological Veto Proof Majority - TalkLeft: The Politics Of Crime
"So here's the concept (which, though I'm not 100 percent sure, I don't think
has been tried yet in Congress): How about when Congress reconvenes in
September, Democrats bring a bill to the floor of the House and Senate mandating
that, say, 25,000 National Guardsmen be taken out of combat in Iraq and be
immediately redeployed to guard America's porous domestic borders - both
southern and northern? If Democrats wanted to get even more creative, they could
additionally mandate that some of these National Guardsmen being redeployed be
immediately sent to forest fire emergency zones - many of which are in
Republican states right now. Think this through for a moment. All of a sudden,
the illegal-immigration-obsessed Tom Tancredo wing of the Republican Party,
which also happens to be the most reflexively pro-war wing of the GOP, would be
forced to choose either the Iraq War or beefed up border security. All of a
sudden, we would be having a debate about two very real, very pressing
priorities, rather than theoreticals and hypotheticals, and we would be
discussing exactly how the misuse of our National Guard as a wing of the regular
Army harms our ability to deal with the domestic challenges the National Guard
was originally established to deal with."
This is a great idea, and it could work, it would be seen through right away though. The right would be enraged by this stunt and it could cause a unity and an uprising that could harm the democrats in 2008. It is dirty politics, and while it may be that you should resort to that at some points, there are costs. Is ending the war worth it, if it might mean losing in 2008.
I think that they would vote for the war, they would I should say vote to keep Democrats from winning and to keep them from attempting to control the armed services which is a function of the executive branch.
That doesn't begin to address the issue that if this worked, it could take a way the main idea holding together a lot of swing voters who are leaning Democratic.
Dems Support Civil Unions, Oppose Gay Marriage - The Ag - News Summary - News in Brief - TIME
"The Democrats' presidential frontrunners answered questions on gay rights
Thursday evening at a forum in L.A. All six candidates who showed up (Joe Biden and Chris Dodd were absent) gave roughly similar responses: They all support federal legislation against sexual-orientation discrimination in the workplace, a repeal of the 'don't ask,
don't tell' policy that prevents openly gay soldiers from serving in the
military, and civil unions to enshrine couples' rights. But only two of the
candidates—Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich—support gay marriage. As Politico puts it,
the candidates 'all but apologized' for their anti-gay-marriage stance, and
offered repeated apologies for past mistakes through their careers, as they came
to terms with changing social norms around homosexuality. This was, after all,
the first such forum during a U.S. presidential campaign. CNN reports the
Republicans were invited too, but all the candidates declined."
While these are strong steps that are being supported by the party, the majority in my opinion are still falling short of the ideas that our constitution is founded on. That is the value and the equality of all people, regardless of religion or race or sexuality. Full equality under the law means that they should be given the right to marry, legally before the state. Let Churches decide for themselves if they want to grant them the ceremonies.
Bush's War Czar thinks "it makes sense to certainly consider" a draft - AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth:
"Frequent tours for U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan have stressed the
all-volunteer force and made it worth considering a return to a military draft,
President Bush's new war adviser said Friday."I think it makes sense to
certainly consider it," Army Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute said in an interview with
National Public Radio's "All Things Considered.""And I can tell you, this has
always been an option on the table. But ultimately, this is a policy matter
between meeting the demands for the nation's security by one means or another,"
Lute added in his first interview since he was confirmed by the Senate in June."
A draft would be bad for Bush, it would be the end of his career. It would not only tarnish his name beyond repair, it could damage the whole families political future and past. In one statement, he would be admitting that his policies have not made us safer than ever, but put us more at risk then ever. A draft would be read as two things. One that America had been weakened to the point that it could not defend itself with current troops (which would no doubt invite an attack). It would be a confession that the risk is greater now than it was before. Democrats would be yelling about how Clinton never needed a draft. Second, it will make the war into a war that is honestly being forced on the American people, and the soldiers. One of he strengths they have behind them now is that they can argue that the troops are fighting because they believe in what they are doing. If they didn't they could quit.
Texas church refuses funeral for gay man - AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth:
"Conducting a memorial service for a gay guy would be like conducting a service
for a thief or a murderer and showing photos of the criminal murdering someone,
the priest said."
While this is a sad story, and I believe the church is in the wrong here, they have that right. What freedom of religion means is that they are free to believe what ever they want to believe is a sin, and if no other laws are broken, act on those beliefs. Find a church that will support him, there are many who are changing. In fact for me the main reason i support gay marriage is because I think to be against it is an over stepping of that divide between church and state.
American Thinker: Politicians and the Self-Delusions:
"They assume that everyone who votes for them is enthusiastically
endorsing their policies when in fact, they may merely be showing their
disapproval of the other guys."
This may be the most honest statement you will ever read about politics.
American Thinker: Battered America: Our Abusive Relationship with the Mullahs:
"United States has gone to both back door and front door negotiating rooms with
the mullahs time and again. When the mullahs asked the West to impede the
overseas opposition to the Iran's regime, the United States and Europe responded
affirmatively by placing Iran's main opposition groups (MEK and NCRI) on the
terrorist list for the past ten years. This categorization has tied the hands of
the enemies of the ayatollahs and has eased the regime's anxiety. Nevertheless
Tehran's behavior has not changed. In the past few months, knowing well what the
mullahs' intentions in Iraq are, the US went to the negotiating table twice. In
these meetings US envoys complained about the mullahs' behavior while the
mullahs' proxies delivered their usual insults and demeaning lectures. It is
time for an honorable, just and wise action. The United States must give up hope
that the barbaric mullahs will some day learn how to behave in a civilized
manner. The only solution for the Iranian people, for the region and for the
world is regime change in Iran. More importantly, the agent of change can not be
a foreign power or foreign war. Iranian regime must be changed by the Iranian
people and their legitimate resistance. Opposition groups that have not been
involved in the crimes of the Shah and the mullahs' rule should be supported in
their drive for a secular, free and democratic Iran. Containment should not be
the goal of American policy toward Iran. Regime change is the answer. "
This is perhaps the best answer to the question about Iran that I have ever read, An invasion of Iran in the way that he did Iraq would be a complete and total failure. The people of Iran deserve better government, and the region is not going to be stable until Iran itself is stable.
Atlas Shrugs: Sudanese Flee to Israel Under Fire by Arabs:
"News that Israel is a free and safe democratic country that respects human
rights is spreading quickly amongst Muslim Sudanese refugees from Darfur who are
fleeing genocide. Hundreds, who are looking for asylum and a better life, have
crossed the Southern Border into Israel. In this video we hear from one of the
12 mothers about their escape to Israel through Egypt and how well they and
their children were treated by the Israel army when they entered Israel
illegally. Visit them in their safe houses provide by the Israeli Government."
I think for me one of the most interesting and compelling stories in the whole crime in Sudan, is the way that Israel has taken in those who are fleeing the conflict. They are taking in Muslims and protecting them, when they could just as easily turn them out, send them back to Egypt or Sudan. They are doing it, because they will die if they go back, and could even be killed in Egypt.

Russian Military Bragging About Overflights
"The Russian government continues its strange game of imperial ambitions, this
time bragging about using Soviet-era bombers to overfly American-patrolled
airspace. Moscow says it's reviving a grand tradition of Russian audacity by
eyeballing American pilots. Americans say that Moscow is reviving a grand
tradition of Russian baloney:"
What do they want and why are they doing this again?
Project Letters From Home
"Jim Cannon at Thinking Right has a new project and could use a lot of help --
and the best part is that the more we help, the more we support the troops.
Picking up where Blackfive left off, Jim has decided to organize a
letter-writing campaign to keep up morale in our fine fighting forces in the 1st
Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment. He wants to make sure every Marine in that
battalion gets a personal letter from an American expressing our gratitude for
the service he or she provides us."
Regardless of how you feel about the war in Iraq, this is the right thing to do. Write to the troops, and if you can't tell them you support the war, at least tell them you support them. If you can't talk about politics at all in a way that doesn't attack them - then write about something else. This isn't about telling them that you support Bush, or that you support the war, this is about showing them that we as Americans care about them. We do not forget about them. Click on the link for more information.
Day 2: Henry Reynolds Still Silent
"After yesterday's story about Santa Monica attorney Henry Reynolds and hisHe won't come forward, because he knows what he has done is wrong. There is no way to justify the actions that he has taken. It is a slight against Thompson, minorities and the Democratic party. He should be dragged out into the spotlight, and he should speak. There are a number of people who he should apologise to, but he won't. A man doesn't fight like this, and a man doesn't play politics in this manner.
Klan-promoting website, many people wondered whether Henry himself would ever
contact me. As I wrote, I did call and leave a message at his law office, asking
for comment on the story -- and I would have gladly included it in the original
post. Instead, we heard nothing but silence as the MoveOn and DNC contributor
changed his Fred Thompson smear site from a white-supremacist linkfest to a John
Edwards donor plea, and then to a disgusting pornography portal, and finally to
a Wiki homage to his old professor, Frederic Jameson, who taught at Reynolds'
alma mater UC Santa Cruz."
Bush To Congress: Prioritize Better
"Perhaps George Bush reads the polls over at KSTP. Yesterday he told
Reps. James Oberstar (D-MN) and Don Young (R-AK) that he would veto any gas-tax increase Congress passes until it reforms the way it appropriates money for
transportation:"
This makes a lot of sense to me. Congress and state governments have lost the trust of the American people. If they want more money, let them earn that trust back, so that we know they will spend it wisely. Our tax dollars have not been spent wisely and that needs to change.
Watching Those We Chose: Dick Cheney needs a muzzle, a sturdy chain...and a tranquilizer dart
"- Iranians have a strong national identity that is founded in common
history; unlike Iraq, which was cobbled together from the remnants of the
Ottoman Empire, and occupied by Britain from 1917 to 1958. Iraq has existed for
90 years, and been occupied by “liberators” for 45 of them.
- Iran is four times the size of Iraq, with terrain that ranges from placid
coastline to rugged mountains.
-The average male Iranian is just under 25 years of age.
-Iran has as many males between 15-64 as Iraq has total population Iran
will not fall simply because a figurehead might be deposed.
-Iran will not fall so long as one Mullah remains alive anywhere in the
country.
-Iran has a relatively modern military that has not been decimated by two
decades of war and sanctions. Iran has the ability to shut down the passage of
oil tankers, and send the price of oil to triple-digit per barrel prices."
War with Iran is a bad idea, it is not going to do down in a cloud of dust and cheers like Iraq did. War with Iran, even on terms of just the battle between America and Iran would be bloody and disastrous. If you add to the mix the fact that Israel would clearly be attacked and drawn into the war, as well as a number of other Middle East nations, it is too horrible to think about.
Keep in mind again that I have been watching this show, that is warping my thoughts, but I have a scary idea right now. What if this isn't about money, oil, water or earthly power at all. What if this is being driven by powers behind the scene that want to bring on the last holy war of Armageddon. People behind the scenes that believe if they can trigger the war, then Jesus will come back and take them to heaven, and they won't die. I know it is crazy.
Watching Those We Chose: Dick Cheney needs a muzzle, a sturdy chain...and a tranquilizer dart
"On two borders, the US has combat troops, and in addition the U.S. encourages
terrorism inside Iran. The U.S. materially supports Jundallah, and offshoot of
al Qaeda, to commit terrorist acts inside Iran, staged from Pakistan. The
Kurdish areas of Iraq are a nest of terrorists. They don’t just attack Turks.
The Kurdish areas have been a staging ground for Kurdish paramilitaries to
train; then they cross the border into the Kurdish areas of Iran and ambush
Republican Guard troops. In addition, Iran has accused the United States of
shooting down two of their military aircraft that were in Iranian airspace. "
I am watching Vanished right now, and that might be why I see a big conspiracy in this. Was all of this a lead up to an attack on Iran. If that is the case, what could be some important a reason to invade Iran. This isn't about oil, or money this is something bigger. This is about more than power, and money and oil, because all of those things have been spent to get to this point - for something more.
Ok, like I said, watching that show is getting inside my head.
Watching Those We Chose: Pop Quiz--Memorable Quotes From Democrats
"'Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.'
'You know that being an American is more than a matter of where your parents came from. It is a belief that all men are created free and equal and that everyone deserves an even break.'
'(T)he American people have a right to know. It is not just Washington insiders that are part of the debate that has to take place with respect to how we're going to shift our foreign policy.'
'We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values. For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.'
'You can think big, but remember, you shouldn't always say everything you think if you're running for president, because it has consequences around the world.' Here are answers in no particular order, Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Franklin Roosevelt. I will match the authors to his or her quote in the comments thread at the end of the day.
Bonus: This quote is too good not to share.
'My choice early in life was either to be a piano-player in a whorehouse or a politician. And to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference.'"
UN Security Counsel Expands UN Role In Iraq | Air America Radio
"The UN will have a bigger role in Iraq. United Nation Security Counsel voted on
a resolution, which would authorize the UN to facilitate political dialogue,
help with elections and settle border disputes. "
This is going to be a good step for Iraq I think. There are no better people in the world to settle this agreement between the parties in Iraq than the UN. What America does well is over throw governments, and what the UN does well is create governments.
Britney Keeps Jayden Out to Dinner Until 10:30 P.M. | Usmagazine.com
"“She wants nothing more than to sell her house, move back to Louisiana and be a
mom,” Encinias tells Us."
While I think that this is probably what is best not only for Britney and the kids, it does mean trouble for Kevin. It would mean that he would either have to relocate to Louisiana as well to see the kids, or the custody terms would have to be changed. L.A. is not where Britney should be right now, and to be honest, she needs to be away from her kids for a while too. Moving back to Louisiana probably isn't practical for the long term, but maybe she could escape there for a short break - to get herself and her life together.
Brit Versus Brits
"Britney is going head to head, again, with Posh Spice as she battles for the
headliner position for 'Fashion Rocks.' The show that combines runways full of
models wearing the crème de la crème of fashion world with music, is seeking a
main act. Brit's people say that she is ready to prove she is back. ( I must
have missed the memo.) "
Who is it going to be, The Spice Girls or Britney Spears - wait is this 1998? I would say that Victoria is always a better bet if it is an event that has to do with fashion. Victoria has some great fashion, and she will be an asset to the show. Britney on the other hand is lacking in that department.
A Look at Lindsay Lohan’s Rehab Schedule--Bumpshack.com
"6 A.M. Wake up call
6:30 A.M. River hike, followed by a brief meditation
8:00 A.M. Breakfast is served
8:30 A.M. Free time — like other residents, Lindsay is assigned cleaning
duties — including cleaning her room and her toilet.
9:00 A.M. Community meeting to discuss what will go on that day.
10:00 A.M. Speaker meeting
12:00 P.M. Lunch is served
1:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. Process group/workshops/experiential time — where
patients participate in any of the following activities including horseback
riding or gardening — which Lindsay did on Tuesday. Spa treatments like massages
and pedicures are also available from estheticians-in-training.
5:30 P.M. Dinner time
6:30 P.M. Assignment group/recovery work
8:00 P.M. 12-Step meeting (on or off-site)
9:30 P.M. Closing meeting — assessment of the day
10:00 P.M. - 11:00 P.M. Free time 11:00 P.M. Lights out"
While there has been rumors that Lindsay wasn't really in rehab, these reports back up the fact that she is in the Utah rehab facility. There have also been rumors that she is pregnant, which seem highly doubtful to me.

Best Week Ever » Blog Archive » SIZZLER: Britney Spears Using Music Videos as Front to Meet Hard Bodies
"In this video obtained by Access Hollywood, L.A. hardbody Matt Salinas
describes how he ended up being straddled by a topless Britney in a hotel pool.
It began innocently enough — he was at a club, Britney’s reps asked if he’d like
to be an “extra” in her music video. He agrees. Not a few minutes later, Britney
claims she’s “too tired” to continue filming, but clearly not too tired to
invite all the extras out to drinks and skinny dipping. Which might be exactly
the sort of ruse she needs to meet men these days."
Access Hollywood has video of the man who has come forward about his hooking up with Britney Spears. He says that he was talking to the body guards, and making friends with them. They were approached and asked if they would like to be extras on her new video. When it came time to do the video though, Britney was too tired.... things went on from that after she invited them to party.
Access Hollywood | Police Report Filed Against Britney Spears Over Parking Lot Accident | Celebrity and Hollywood News
"LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 9, 2007) – Kevin Federline might not be the only
taking Britney Spears to court. The woman whose car was struck by Britney's car
in a parking lot earlier this week has filed a police report, Access Hollywood
has learned."
How does Britney think she can get away with something like this, when it is all over the internet.
Access Hollywood | Brad Pitt Reports For Jury Duty | Celebrity and Hollywood News
"LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 9, 2007) – Brad Pitt may be a world famous
actor, but his star power simply couldn’t keep him from jury duty. The “Oceans
Thirteen” star was called for jury duty in Los Angeles, earlier today his
publicist confirmed to Access Hollywood."
While it is nice to think about Brad Pitt having to do something that many other Americans have had to do, the reality is that he would never sit on the jury. I wouldn't be a fair trial, the other jurors might give his opinions too much weight, and that could throw off the balance of the jury. That is at least what any attorney would argue. There was a case a number of years ago, where Oprah was on a jury, and there was a mistrial that was asked for, and after there was a conviction, Oprah was used as grounds to appeal.
It really shouldn't and wouldn't happen.
Access Hollywood | Britney's Fender Bender Victim Hits Back | Celebrity and Hollywood News
"'The next morning, a woman came to my door…and it was a [reporter] and she
wanted to know how we felt about the incident where Britney hit our car. And I
was like, 'What do you mean?'' she revealed. 'I went out to my car and sure
enough, someone hit my car.'"
How nice to find out that your car had been hit when there is a reporter at your door. Turns out that not only did Britney not leave a note for the person who's car she had hit, she made no effort to contact her. The press hounded this poor lady, calling and asking her about how she felt about her car being hit by Britney's car. The lady expressed concern that Britney felt that she was above the law, after watching the video on the internet. The lady felt like Britney's people would contact her, and the call was never made. There is a video on the link.
She thinks Britney is going to be a responsible womyn, poor lady doesn't know Britney like we do, does she.
Access Hollywood | Christina Applegate's Divorce Finalized | Celebrity and Hollywood News
"LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 10, 2007) -- Christina Applegate is now unmarried
... with no children. The actress and her actor husband, Johnathon Schaech, have
officially parted ways a year and a half after he filed for divorce. "
She has been out of the spotlight for a while, but I still remember back in the day she was the hottest thing out there. The future is hers and I hope that it treats her well, good luck to her on her new life.
Vitoria coming to America
There are moments in the film that you can tell she doesn't think like the rest of us. When she goes to DMV and she has her assistant give her the answers over the wall. Talking about her assistant she first says that she doesn't want her assistant to be too skinny or attractive. Wonder how the assistant felt when she heard that later. Then she puts the assistant on the spot when the girl asks if she will ever be assisting David. Victoria gives her a look, and asks - would you like to assist him, do you think he is sexy. The assistant gets embarrassed.
I think she is going to remain a star in America as much as she was in England because of her style and her personality. There are some people who really are stars because they know how to look good, and they know how to deres.
Two Crazy Lohans Nearly Done Fighting
"The end of the union from which sprung the red-headed hot mess that we
now know as Lindsay Lohan appears about to be officially at an end. Dina and
Michael are currently in a courthouse in New York, to hammer out the final
details of their divorce settlement. According to TMZ, Michael has been granted
rights to see his two youngest children, Dakota and Aliana, as long as there is
supervision in the form of a Teen Challenge pastor and two lawyers present.
Also, Judge Ross has left the task of the actual divorce settlement in the hands
of the couple's respective lawyers, with a deadline of next Friday to come to a
decision of their own. No word yet on who has been legally ruled to blame for
Lindsay's f-d up childhood."
While this is good news for Lindsay and her family, it hardly means that the fighting is over. When you have a dysfunctional family like the Lohan's the first settlement in court is rarely the last. Lets hope that they can set aside their own concerns long enough to help Lindsay out.
Reese & Jake: Secret Hotel Rendezvous! | Usmagazine.com
"While doing press to announce her new deal with cosmetics giant Avon on
August 1, a wily Reese Witherspoon stashed boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal away in a
secret guest suite reserved just for her at the Regent Beverly Wilshire
hotel."
This girl is going to make us all go crazy. Who is it, is it Ryan or is it Jake? She is seen with Ryan one day, and then she goes to a hotel with Jake the next. Couldn't we all have these great problems of two hot people who want our attention.
Amy Winehouse recovering from suspected drug overdose in hotel | News | NME.COM
"Amy Winehouse is recovering from her suspected overdose in a hotel in London,
and has not entered rehab, as had been previously reported in the UK press"
I guess rehab is the new vacation for celebs now. This is good news for Amy, it is good that she reached the point that she saw that she needed help before it was too late. She can clean up, turn her life around and come back with some great music. Good luck Amy.
X17 XCLUSIVE - Britney's Mom Mum On Brit (X17 Online)
"Question of the day - Is Lynne Spears in collusion with Kevin, helping him in
his attempt to get full custody of the kids? When we asked Lynne yesterday if
she and Britney have reconciled, we got no comment ..."
Has Lynne joined team Kevin in helping him to get custody of the children. With the problems that she is having with Britney right now, it would be understandable that she might not want to support her own child. Britney herself is having so many problems right now, that Lynne wouldn't be the only one that thinks the kids might be better off with Kevin. Also it would mean that she would be able to see her own grand children more, the fight between her and Britney means she can't see them with they are with Britney.
Who should get the kids? I really think that they should be taken away from Britney, not because she doesn't love them. It appears that she does really love them, but they aren't safe with her. Also it might be the action that is needed to get her to pull herself out of this chaos she is in.
Gwen Stefani L.A.M.B High-Heeled Sneakers | Style Crunch
What do you think, love them or hate them... I am thinking of what you would wear them with, and that it might give the impression the person wearing them was always standing on their toes. I don't like them.
Sexual Assault at Playboy Mansion Investigated
"There's a police investigation currently underway at the Playboy Mansion, in
regards to an incident that took place on Monday. Reports allege that a possible
sexual assault took place in the home of Hugh Hefner, who is probably best known
for the charity work he does for finding homes for wayward boobies. "
This is just shocking, this is the most shocking thing since I heard that there was a rape on the set of "The Real World".
Honeslty though, there is no reason to assume that just because it was at the Playboy Mansion the crime took place.
Correction: Lily Allen Has A Visa
"Lily Allen's manager has responded to news that the star has been denied a US
visa, calling the reports 'rubbish'. Neale Easterby explained that the singer is
in fact working in Las Vegas, and has not been denied a visa. It was reported
that Allen was strip searched during a stopover at Los Angeles, after which she
was denied a US Visa, banning her from the country. But Easterby told Billboard:
'She's in Las Vegas right now. She will be there until Thursday shooting a video
with Common and Kanye West for Common's track 'Drivin' Me Wild'.'"
Good news for fans of the kung-foo kicking hottie known as Lily Allen. It appears that the gossip going around that she was having trouble with her work visa is bunk. She will be playing her shows as scheduled.
A Socialite's Life
"Once, when Lindsay was 16, Michael flew into a rage while driving and 'slammed
on the brakes and dragged her out of the car, pushed her up against the hood,
screamed at her and called her a slut. This was on the Long Island Expressway! I
got in the middle of it and pulled him off.' As Lindsay's manager, Dina - who
was desperate to become a star herself - received 10 percent of her income.
'Lindsay was the family cash cow - and she resented it,' Almeida claims. 'They
counted on her to pay their bills . . . I saw Lindsay exhausted, begging her
mother for some time off.'"
Am I the only one who is starting to understand why Lindsay is as messed up as she is, and I am starting to fear that her sister might be headed down the same path. This family is like a bad after-school special, it is just sad. When your body guard has to step in to protect you from your father, that is sad. When your mother is using you to make all the money in the house and to promote her own weak chances at stardom, that is bad.
I think Donald Trump was right, Lindsay needs to pull an Angelina Jolie on her parents, and cut them out of her life.
Obama Calls Canadian Prime Minister a 'President' - Where is Media Ridicule? | NewsBusters.org
"At Tuesday night’s AFL-CIO forum in Chicago, Obama was asked if he would scrap
the North American Free Trade Agreement as president. The senator from Illinois
said, “I would immediately call the president of Mexico, the president of
Canada, to try to amend NAFTA, because I think that we can get labor agreements
in that agreement right now.”"
What do you think? Do you think that he really didn't know that Canada has a prime minister, and not a president?
It is more likely that he was more focused on the point of his sentence, and was either being sloppy or lazy in calling the leader of Canada a president. It is worth noting though that Bush would have gotten more press in 2000, if he had made a similar statement.
This is a great idea....
CLASSES IN EXCHANGE FOR VOLUNTEER WORK
Our volunteer program invites individuals to “earn” free classes by donating time at Project Angel Food, a daily meal program for people with HIV, AIDS and other serious illnesses. Volunteer opportunities with other community programs will be added over time.
The program will be made available to 2 commercial students and 2 on-camera audition students per session. For every 5 hours of service, one free 3-hour class will be earned. A qualifying student can earn credits for single classes or, to earn enough service credits for an entire session of 8 classes, a student would commit to 40 volunteer hours over the course of 8 weeks. Volunteer work can be done on a daily basis, or in blocks of time – all based on a student’s availability and the needs of the organization to which service will be given.
By offering classes in exchange for volunteer time, we’re accomplishing three goals. First, students will benefit from the experience of helping others. Second, much needed assistance will be provided to worthy causes. And third, students who may not be in a financial position to take classes will be afforded that opportunity.
“I believe that this work is an important aspect of personal and professional development for actors. Being of service to the community is a great source of inspiration and connection with the human condition. For those we serve, this understanding translates to a deep sense of joy and caring in their lives.”
It’s our hope that this project will be contagious, and that other acting coaches and performing arts teachers will join us in these programs. The greater and more diverse the volunteer force, the more we can all expand the capacity and level of contribution to the community.
If you’re interested in being a part of this program, please contact the Studio and let us know. And if you’re an industry professional that would like to join us in the volunteer program, we’d love to hear from you.

Right Wing Watch: Idaho Congressman: Hindu Prayer, Muslim Rep Will Doom America
"'We have not only a Hindu prayer being offered in the Senate, we have a
Muslim member of the House of Representatives now, Keith Ellison from Minnesota.
Those are changes -- and they are not what was envisioned by the Founding
Fathers,' asserts Sali."
I think that is exactly what was envisioned by our founding fathers.
