Woman wakes up to find intruder in her bed

I don't know...

I don't know how I feel about this, one the one hand Arizona has the right to make laws without being bullied, but people who don't like those laws have the right not to spend their money there.

I really hate this...

If he was the first person in a wheel chair to climb Mt. Everest, wow! If he were the first person in a wheel chair to sail across an ocean, wow! But the first person to be in a certain position of power, boring. The wheel chair didn't make it harder on him, what are we wowing about?

Sometimes Jon nails the thing no one is saying...

And in this case he did it. Why would you trust someone so admittedly ideologically driven as Breitbart to the point of firing someone? Why would you not take a moment to review the facts?

The NYT wants to fuck up Google...

This reminds me of Atlas Shrugged, how the companies that couldn't compete turned to the government to force the stronger, and better company, into regulations that weakened its ability to compete. Hands off Google.

If Obama wants to do this, Google should move to another country.

Honestly I don't see what the story is. Mel Gibson is nuts, we all knew that. He may or may not be a racist, I don't see why that matters. Does he get angry and shot on the phone, sure. But lots of people do, and I don't think that is newsworthy.

How to trick people into thinking you're good looking

The poor is the US are not poor on a global standard

I don't understand what is so controversial here. I believe and Rand said steps could be taken to improve the lives of the poor in America. However when you look at not just the income available to many poor people, but the collective resources of the community, you get a picture of poor people who are lucky to be American.

The fact is, the richest person in a Third World country would trade that spot for the lowest rung on the American ladder. But I’ll go further and say the poor in the US – when viewed by the rest of the world – aren’t poor at all. The poverty level for us looks like something to shoot for.

Fact is, there are too many countries to mention where citizens have a yearly income measured in hundreds of dollars. While our poor can still buy music, beer and Nikes, one purchase at the Footlocker cripples Liberia for a week.

There is racism...

Racism on the right, racism on the left, racism amongst whites and racism amongst blacks and browns and yellows and reds. Young people are racist and old people are racist. It exists.

However, what the NAACP and the New Black Panther Party are doing doesn't advance a discussion on the issue. An honest discussion would be had by the two sides talking, the blanket insults used by the NAACP and The New Black Panther Party push people apart, and make communication impossible.

This sounds like double speak to me...

Are we really there to "balance" the power in the region, and do "many countries" really want us to take on that role. Two things, helping the countries in the region develop their own strength seems like a more sustainable path. Second, an increase in American force in the region is likely to encourage China to increase its force, which would make other countries in the region more vulnerable, not less.

The Tomahawks' arrival "is part of a larger effort to bolster our capabilities in the region," Glaser says. "It sends a signal that nobody should rule out our determination to be the balancer in the region that many countries there want us to be." No doubt Beijing got the signal.

CNN fires veteran editor for Mideast over Tweet | Reuters

It doesn't matter if you support Hezbollah...

This isn't a terrorism issue, it is a free speech issue. Free speech is important because there is not just one way to see the world. America may view Fadlallah as a terrorist, but that doesn't mean everyone does. When the expression of minority views are suppressed, the groups that hold those views are excluded from the public discussion. Honest communication and understanding cannot happen in an environment of suppressed speech. As groups become more isolated the hate and fear between them grows in the absence of understanding.

Taking action for expressing a view counter to what the government believes should not cost you your job. This was the wrong move for CNN to take, and it sends the message to its viewers and its reporters they are expected to conform to the status quo. Truth doesn't always conform to the status quo. They have effectively limited their reports ability to deliver the news fair and balanced.

Did Rolling Stone harm America with its article?

I know people are happy Rolling Stone published "the truth", but lets look at what it published. It ran a story informing us that the top general in Afghanistan doesn't think highly of Obama and his leadership team. We got to read about him and his staff making fun of Joe Biden (doesn't everyone make fun of Joe Biden). But that isn't important.

What is important is the lives of the men and womyn serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. What is important is that as a nation we are informed about the circumstances of the war they are fighting and the deaths they are dying. Hearing people make fun of Biden is great (again doesn't everyone make fun of Biden) but getting information about our troops is critical.

Thanks to Rolling Stone and the story by Hastings, that is going to be harder.
