Romney's Race to Lose
Townhall.com::Blog: Romney's Race to Lose
Click the link to see why, but it looks like Romney might be the one to take this race. It looks like a race between Romney and Clinton to me at this point. I think key to this conclusion is understanding the way Iowa works. People will gather for their first choices, and if there are not enough people to support that person, they move on to their second choice. While Clinton and Romney may not be winning on first choice, I would bet they are with second choices.
"So, unless Rudy manages to turn the election into a referendum on
leadership-in-a-time-of-crisis in the next three weeks, at least how it stands
now, say hello to Mitt Romney as our nominee."

United States Republican presidential candidates, 2008 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Mitt Romney, born March 12, 1947, in Michigan, is former Governor of Massachusetts; he did not seek a second term in November 2006. Romney has made numerous trips to primary states such as South Carolina, Michigan, and New Hampshire, during recent years. Romney is running on his record as co-founder of Bain Capital, the CEO of the 2002 Winter Olympics, and his record as Governor of Massachusetts. Although he ran as a moderate for the office of Governor of Massachusetts and during his failed Senate bid in 1994, he supported more conservative positions as his term progressed. Romney formed a presidential exploratory committee on January 3, 2007, the day he left the governor's office.

He has a point, but it isn't a point that helps him any since he doesn't have any more experience than they do. The best person in terms of foreign policy experience is Hilary. She has been around the world and met leaders as the first lady.
"If nothing else, Mitt Romney is a perpetual irony machine. Yesterday, Romney
added to his legend by proclaiming that his three leading Democratic opponents -
all U.S. Senators - lack his foreign policy experience"

Crooks and Liars » Mitt Romney Finance Big Wig Charged with Child Abuse:
Those places are scary, but someone this fits into the image that I have been getting from Romney. He is one of those people that are to perfect, and you can see that he expects that everyone around him is going to be the same. Those who are not are thrown under the bus. I think the parents who send their kids to these places are admitting that they cannot take responsibility for their own children.
"[Former Romney financier] Lichfield is named in a federal lawsuit
charging that students of the “behavior modification” schools with ties to
WWASPS [Worldwide Association of Specialty Schools, founded by Lichfield] were
subjected to “physical abuse, emotional abuse and sexual abuse.” …not much has
been heard about this in all the yelling and screaming over Hsu even though
[Litchfield]’s been bringing in far more money for Flip Flop than Hsu has
brought in for Democrats."

Crooks and Liars » Romney Fundraising Scandal Ignored By Liberal Media - Clinton Gets Hammered Over Hsu:
I don't think it can be said that his is a issue of one party or another, what this is an issue of is power and money and the abuse of those two things. That is part of humyn nature that binds all of us. It does not make it any less wrong, anyone who breaks the law should pay.
"August was a disastrous month for Republicans and the Romney campaign took a
huge hit when it’s national finance committee co-chairman, Alan B. Fabian was
charged in a 23 count indictment, including charges of money laundering, mail
fraud, perjury and obstruction of justice. It’s reported Fabian, a former Bush
Pioneer, allegedly ran a scheme that netted him millions of dollars which were
used to purchase beach front property and travel. The Romney campaign said they
would return Fabian’s $2,300 campaign donation, but not funds donated by others
through him. Fabian stepped down from Romney’s campaign shortly after his August
9th indictment — but you may not have heard much about this scandal."

Romney is worried about Thompson - AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth:
Yeah why not just run next time...
Honestly I think Romney has the most to lose by Thompson joining the race. Thompson is more conservative than either Romney or Giuliani, and to some degree that will pull down votes for both of them. However I think that what is keeping Giuliani going for a segment of the population is the single issue of terror. There is a group that remembers seeing him on 9-11 and will vote for him because of that. McCain has no solid base at this point, so it will be easier for his base to shift towards Thompson.
"While Thompson, the 'Law & Order' television actor and former senator from
Tennessee, will be in Los Angeles for the Leno show Romney will be among the GOP
contenders at a Wednesday night debate in Durham., N.H. 'I think it will boost
the ratings for Jay Leno's show, but I'd rather be doing well in New Hampshire,'
Romney earlier told reporters before he marched in a Labor Day parade in
Milford, N.H. Romney also took a jab as Thompson's long delayed decision to
become an official candidate for the GOP nomination. 'Well, I guess the only
comment I'd make to Fred Thompson would be: Why the hurry? Why not take a little
longer to think this over? From my standpoint, if he wants to wait until January
or February, that would be ideal.'"
Yeah why not just run next time...

Romney Hedges His Bets on Abortion
Romney Hedges His Bets on Abortion
How does he look at himself in the mirror in the morning knowing that he has no integrity? How can he be changing his stand on abortion again?
Abortion has always been a divisive issue for the GOP so you can't blame Mitt
Romney for wanting it both ways. But after saying this week he would allow
individual states to keep abortion legal - just two weeks after stressing his
support for a constitutional amendment to ban the procedure nationwide - the
Washington Post thinks he should make his mind up.
How does he look at himself in the mirror in the morning knowing that he has no integrity? How can he be changing his stand on abortion again?

Anecdotal Evidence
Anecdotal Evidence
I don't think that the sanctuary city idea is a good idea it is for different reasons. I think that either you are going to uphold the law or you are not. If you are not going to up hold the law you shouldn't be in an office that requires you to do so. It isn't in the jurisdiction of city leaders to decide matters of immigration policy, it is up to national leaders to set the policy and write the laws.
That being said, this case in Newark is not about immigration, and it looks like everyone is going to be talking about it as an immigration issue - but it isn't. It is an issue of crime and violence.
Presidential candidate Mitt Romney has joined the chorus of right-wing activists
holding up a crime in Newark, New Jersey as cause for an anti-immigrant
crackdown. Romney campaign is running radio ads in Iowa and New Hampshire
attacking “sanctuary cities” that “become magnets that encourage illegal
immigration and undermine secure borders.” The ads also mention New York City,
in an indirect attack on fellow candidate and former New York Mayor Rudy
Giuliani, who responded with his own attack accusing Romney of being soft on
immigrants.

First of all, I really don't think that these polls mean all that much. The whole republican field seems to be in a perpetual state of uncertainty at this point.
Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has finally surpassed New York Senator Hillary Clinton in the polls. Unfortunately for Romney, it’s a poll measuring
the number of people committing to vote against him.
The Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 44% of Likely Voters would definitely vote against Romney if he’s on the ballot in 2008. That’s a point higher than the 43% who would definitely vote against Clinton. Only one other possible candidate surpassed Clinton in this category all year (former House Speaker Newt Gingrich who is not considered a candidate at this time).

Romney: Life Begins at Pick Up Line
Romney: Life Begins at Pick Up Line
Of course this is pandering by Romney.
But for those trained to hear the subtleties, Mr. Romney was acknowledging something more. He implied an opposition to the birth control pill and a willingness to join in their efforts to scale back access to contraception. There are code phrases to listen for - and for those keeping score, Mr. Romney nailed each one.I think one of the fears that I have about the right and their attack on abortion is that it is just the lead to a larger effort to control peoples private lives. Once abortion is made illegal, there is serious reason to believe that other forms of birth control will be pushed into the definition. Such common tactics of birth control like the morning after or even the birth control pill be the next targets. I don't trust the religious right with that power, they have their own concepts of right and wrong, which is fine, but they are determined that the rest of us should accept them - which is not fine. One code phrase is: "I fought to define life as beginning at conception rather than at the time of implantation." The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists defines pregnancy as starting at implantation, the first moment a pregnancy can be known. Anti-abortion advocates want pregnancy to start at the unknown moment sperm and egg meet: fertilization. They'd also like you to believe, despite evidence to the contrary, that the birth control pill prevents that fertilized egg from implanting in the womb.
Of course this is pandering by Romney.

Mitt Roughs Up Online Sex Predators , Civil Liberties | Air America Radio
Mitt Roughs Up Online Sex Predators , Civil Liberties Air America Radio:
There is a more practical concern here, there is no reason that I know of to believe that someone who has committed one sex crime, is a sex criminal in a compulsive sense. However there are a number of people out there that are compulsive sex offenders. If you track them all by GPS after their first offense, it will be counter effective. The numbers of people the system would have to attempt to track would be so large, that it would be easy for the dangerous ones to evade observation.
Sex Crimes are terrible, and I think that there should be no room for tolerance of them. We do have to act wisely though, understanding our resources and understanding the crime.
"Mitt Romney believes that online sex predators should be punished no matter
what it cost to our civil liberties. He has proposed amplified punishment for
online sex offenders and a lifetime tracking Global Positioning System for first
time offenders. Late last month Romney said, 'It's time to clean up the
Internet, make sure that those people who are using the Internet to become
predators against children, that those people are gone forever. I want to put
them in jail for a long time and make sure we have GPS on them for the rest of
their lives. One strike and they're ours. I want to know where they are
forever.” Many people have problems with Romney’s proposal because it violates
civil liberties and ultimately would not deterrent sex predators. They believe
the best way to deter is to education children on this issue. "

Mitt says he 'misspoke' about his sons and military service - AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth:
I honestly think it is too little too late, besides he may have misspoke but that wasn't the only time that he said that his sons were serving their country by campaigning with him. In answering a question of an audience member (unsure of location right now), about why his sons weren't in the service, he gave a similar answer.
"'I misspoke,'' the former Massachusetts governor said today on 'Fox News
Sunday.'' 'It's not service to the country, it's service for me, and there's
just no comparison there.'' ...Romney said today that he 'didn't mean in any way
to compare service in the country with my boys in any way. Service in this
country is an extraordinary sacrifice being made by individuals and their
families.''"

Atlas Shrugs: Romney Takes it
Atlas Shrugs: Romney Takes it:
While this holds no official meaning, it does give Romney a much needed boost in his campaign. The person who no doubt gained the most from this is Huckabee who has been seen as a second tier candidate. The bump is publicity, and the ability to bring in voters will mean more money for both of these candidates. McCain and Giuliani were not a part of the poll, we will never know if they would have ranked higher or not. Fred Thompson has yet to declare, I think this would have been his last chance. Fred can't win this race now.

be former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who placed a surprising second."
