Ron Paul has some crazy ideas, but he has stated on a number of occasions that he didn't believe that America was responsible for the events on 9-11. He has said that American policy in the past contributed to them happening.

it in protecting the military if they are going to perform the services, and
they are imperfect -- because we're all imperfect and we all sin. If a
heterosexual or homosexual sins, that to me is the category of dealing with
their own soul. Since we cannot have only perfect people going in the military I
want to separate the two because I don't want to know the heterosexual flaws,
nor the homosexual flaws and that's why I got in some trouble with some of the
civil libertarians because I don't have any problem with Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
Because I don't think that, for the practicality of running a military, I'd just
as soon not know every serious thing that any heterosexual or homosexual did,
and those flaws have to do with all our flaws because each and everyone one of
us has those imperfections.

This is actually a some what understandable reason to support don't ask don't tell. It sounds like he is saying that he doesn't want to know what is going on in people's bedrooms. There is some logic to that, but just because something is logical does not mean it is practical.

Ron Paul, born August 20, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a long time U.S. Representative from Texas with a strong constitutionalist and libertarian voting record. Paul has been nicknamed "Dr. No" for his opposition to tax increases and spending bills. He has chastened his fellow Republicans for abandoning the party's ideals, and for helping to create an unsustainable national debt now in the trillions of dollars. Paul seeks to "reinstate the Constitution and restore the Republic."

On 11 January 2007, Paul filed papers to form an exploratory committee for the 2008 presidential race. He formally declared his candidacy 12 March 2007 as a guest on Washington Journal on C-SPAN. He is not running as a Libertarian as he did nearly two decades ago. Paul has the distinction of being opposed to the Iraq War and interventionist US foreign policy. He is one of 7 Republican congressman who voted against Iraq War authorization in October 2002. He has also opposed George W. Bush and the majority of Republican congressmen on many other issues, including the PATRIOT Act. His record on these issues means he may draw support from some surprising circles, including anti-war activists and paleoconservatives.

On 20 February 2007, Paul's exploratory committee posted a formal video of him explaining his reason for running on YouTube.

Reagan's understanding of freedom (the "negative" freedom which leaves people free to determine their own lives) stands in contradistinction to freedom as understood by our friends on the Left (a "positive" freedom that seeks to free everyone from pain, suffering, risk, and inequality).

But what Paulism does not do is envision the nature and role of the United States as a nation. And from its very first days, the US has been an aggressive, expansionist, seafaring power, dedicated to economic prosperity, and with both the desire and the justification to take a large role on the world stage.

Some interesting thoughts on Ron Paul's campaign and the ideas that are behind it. The idea that seems to underlie all of his positions is that America can and should isolate itself from the rest of the world. This idea is not only clearly wrong in my opinion - it is dangerous. America is a part of the global economy, and it has a key part in that economy. The world has become much more of a place where nations cannot go their own way. That is just as true for America as it is for China or even smaller countries. Our fates are more tied together than ever, and we need to come together more than ever to solve the problems we face.

Sounds like a joke, 69 democrats and Ron Paul walk into the bar. They tell the bartender George Bush that we are not going to pay the bar tab unless the bartender starts to serve non-alcoholic beverages only. The bartender replies that since they are in the bar, it is madness to talk about not serving alcohol, and says that he is not going to let them dictate to him how to run his bar. Yeah I know it isn't a very good joke.

to the Hy-Vee (has any candidate done something that big on their own, not at an
RPI event?). His home base in Texas isn’t that far of a drive, and his people
are motivated enough to come in from out of state for him. And he’s making a big
push on his Web site, which for all intents and purposes, is his campaign.
Romney, given his dominant position organizationally in Iowa, should still
win. Even with the rest of the top tier not participating, he won’t be able to
let his guard down, lest he be ambushed by one of the second tier. Should Romney
underperform against someone not even playing at Ames, or against someone not
taken seriously, that’s a blow to his Iowa inevitability."

I got a number of comments from people that said that when the numbers came in it would be a surprise how well Ron Paul was doing. I have been dismissive of his bid for the White House, and while I still feel it is a long shot, I wanted to post this. This shows that he is getting serious cash and leads the lower tier, with the chance of becoming a first tier candidate.
