"Ingraham;….And, not to defend the Daily Kos, when you’re constantly targeting
the middle or the moderates as Harold called them…it’s pretty tough because the
middle is always shifting…it’s shifting to where the left or right is more
persuasive. It’s not like the moderates are an identifiable group—-identifiable
positions on a number of key issues. They kinda move to either where
conservatives or liberals guide them either successfully or not so…I think
targeting the middle is a very risky political strategy and I’ve got to say—at
least the Daily Kos people are honest with what they want."
She makes a solid point here, attempting to be in the middle means that you are always on shifting ground and your ideas do adapt to the ideas of others. I don't think this means that the middle is always a bad place to be, if there were no one in the middle, how would the extremes have discussions. To take a stand on the left, just to be on the left or right or the middle, is blind for its own sake. Issues need to be understood, and thought through, I may agree with the right on one issue and the left on another - while finding the middle ground best on a third.
Some of our hardest problems have no middle, and we need one.
