Fire or Books

I hate to put it in these terms, but the truth is that the state is looking at a choice of spending money on saving mansions or funding education. It is my opinion they are putting too much money into saving replaceable houses, at the cost of an irreplaceable education.

School breaks law to assist illegals

clipped from michellemalkin.com

Yes, you read that right. A school district in Dallas has been caught supplying fake Social Security numbers to employees. And it’s been going on for years. The Dallas News won’t come out and say it, but it’s blindingly obvious this school district was cooking up fake Social Security numbers for illegal alien teachers (referred to in the report as “foreign educators”). Which means they committed at least three crimes: ID fraud, hiring illegal aliens, and felonious aiding/abetting illegal aliens.

YouTube Presidency

This is a great idea, and it can only get people more involved in the government.

The YouTube Presidency

Today, President-elect Obama will record the weekly Democratic address not just on radio but also on video -- a first. The address, typically four minutes long, will be turned into a YouTube video and posted on Obama's transition site, Change.gov, once the radio address is made public on Saturday morning.

Cold Medicine in my candy?

Wow, how did that happen?
clipped from consumerist.com

Well, this is a weird one. People in Canada are finding DayQuil capsules inside sealed boxes of Smarties candy. So far, seven small "Halloween sized" boxes of the candy have been found to contain the cold medicine.

Should the Government sell land to raise funds

I really like this idea, if done with careful thought about what land, and how much was sold.

Does a sale of western lands mean reducing national parkland?  No, first much of the land isn't parkland.  Second, I propose a deal.  The government should sell some of its most valuable land in the west and use some of the proceeds to buy low-price land in the Great Plains.

Sources of progress

Does this make Capitalism or the scientific method wrong? I don't think so, I think it does indicate that even things that bring us progress can be harmful if not balanced.

The scientific method & capitalism are similarly inhuman systems. They also happen to be the primary sources of our progress.

China Fact

This does seem to point to a downturn in the economy of China.

China fact of the day

Electrical power generated in October is 4% below a year earlier.

Is there any chance that this is more reliable information than the gdp statistics offered up by the Chinese government?
