ABC News: Secret Signals: How Men Cruise for Sex:

"Craig tapped his foot up and down and swiped his hand underneath the bathroom
stall in which the undercover cop was sitting, according to the police report.
Those actions led to Craig's arrest by Detective Dave Karsnia and the senator's
guilty plea to a disorderly conduct charge. Craig told reporters today that he
did nothing inappropriate and said his guilty plea was a mistake. "

I don't mean this in a homophobic way at all, but is it just me or will you never tap your feet in the bathroom ever again guys? Well, unless you happen to be sitting next to Sen Craig.

ABC News: Is New Orleans Safe? Will It Ever Be?

ABC News: Is New Orleans Safe? Will It Ever Be?:

"After $1.7 billion worth of work on a patchwork of levees, pumps,
flood walls, canals and floodgates, New Orleans as a whole remains alarmingly
vulnerable to another Katrina-like catastrophe, according to scientists and
engineers who have studied the improvements and residents, politicians and
watchdogs who have spoken to ABC News."

Is it just me, or is New Orleans built on what amounts to a giant sandbar? Of course it isn't safe. When you get done making New Orleans safe from flooding, you can make Kansas safe from tornadoes or Los Angelas safe from Earthquakes.

"Defense attorney Donald Lykkebak said in the filing that Nowak suffered from
major depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, insomnia and 'brief psychotic

Sorry I don't buy it, and I don't think that this defense should stick. In order to have an insanity defense you need to be able to show that there was no planning. This attack was planned in detail, far in advance, this is not the product of an irrational mind, rather it is the product of a planning rational mind.

ABC News: Accused Rapist: 'I Was Sleepwalking':

"Like walking, eating or driving in your sleep, sleep sex or 'sexsomnia' is a
rare, but real, phenomenon, experts told ABCNEWS.com. Ecott, whose regular
sleepwalking in the air force earned him the nickname Night Rider, said after an
evening of heavy drinking at a birthday party, he passed out along with several
other guest on an air mattress set up in his friend's living room. "

The way I see it, he knew that he had a problem, he did not get help. He should have known that alcohol could be a trigger, and if he did, he should have been more careful about drinking. If you have a disease like this, you are responsible to understand the disease as much as you can. You are responsible to seek treatment or take other steps to protect the public. This man did not take these steps, and for that I think he should be found guilty. Reckless Endangerment if nothing else.

Are Media Reporting Global Warming Too Objectively or Inhibiting Free Speech? | NewsBusters.org:

Are Media Reporting Global Warming Too Objectively or Inhibiting Free Speech? NewsBusters.org:

"In the past couple of days, there have been two articles written
about how the media are covering global warming. In one, the author contended
that the press are acting to inhibit free speech by exclusively reporting one
side of the climate change issue as they castigate skeptics as deniers and
operatives of the oil industry. By contrast, another article suggested that the
press in their attempts to appear objective are not doing a good enough job
stressing the dire nature of global warming, and should be taking a much
stronger position as advocate for the supposed consensus."

Should a topic like global warming where there are two sides of opinions, but not two equal sides be given equal coverage and weight in the media? I lean towards allowing networks to choose for themselves, and the viewers will find a source that they connect with based on their beliefs. Sad reality is that the media is starting to remind me of Machiavelli. In his book, "The Prince", he said that you should never take a neutral stand, because you won't be respected by either side. You will be mistrusted by both sides, and that seems to be the atmosphere in America right now.

Captain's Quarters: Me And My Shadow

"The Wall Street Journal has noticed a strange correlation between the donations
of a major contributor to Hillary Clinton and a family living in a modest Daly
City, California home. Despite having an annual income that would likely qualify
as John Edwards' other America, the Paw family has contributed over $45,000 to
Hillary's electoral campaigns -- on the same days as mega-donor Norman Hsu, who
once lived at the same address"

United States Republican presidential candidates, 2008 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rudy Giuliani, born May 28, 1944, in New York, former mayor of New York City. Giuliani said on October 2, 2005, that he would look at the possibility of running for President. On November 13, 2006, he announced that he was forming an exploratory committee. He has led several state and nationwide polls for the Republican nomination and the general election, and has been mentioned by many media sources as a possible candidate since the 9/11 attacks and a speech to the 2004 Republican Convention. Giuliani is pro-choice, and supports a type of civil union between same sex couples and agrees for legal and medical reasons that same sex relationships should get the same rights under the law. He also believes in strong restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms and agrees with harsh punishment for illegal weapons or non permitted weapons. While opinions differ, some think that these positions could help him, should he secure the nomination, in the general election; others question whether the Republican base would support a nominee with Giuliani's social positions. On February 5, 2007, Giuliani unofficially entered the race for the 2008 US presidential election by filing a "statement of candidacy" with the Federal Election Commission, but legally keeping him at the same level as he was while running an exploratory committee. On February 15, Giuliani officially announced that he was running on CNN's Larry King Live show. If elected, Giuliani would be the first Italian-American to hold the office of president, the second Roman Catholic, following John Kennedy.

Daily Kos: Fire Fighters Endorse Chris Dodd

Daily Kos: Fire Fighters Endorse Chris Dodd:

"In a move that surprised just about everyone following the Democratic race,
Chris Dodd won the first major union endorsement of the 2008 campaign today by
garnering the support of the politically influential International Association
of Fire Fighters. "

Dodd hasn't been polling high, so it will be interesting to see if this endorsement will increase his numbers or not. My take is that it might give him a small bump, but most people have either decided who they are going to vote for, or are putting it off for the last moment.

NBC’s Matt Lauer: Good Thing 'Piñata' Alberto Gonzales Forced Out | NewsBusters.org

NBC’s Matt Lauer: Good Thing 'Piñata' Alberto Gonzales Forced Out NewsBusters.org:

"'James, you know, Ari's talking about the venom in Washington right now
and when it comes right down to it, strange dynamic, an only-in-Washington
story. There are a lot of Democrats who just victimized and villainized Alberto
Gonzales over these last eight months, but when it comes right down to it this
morning, are not all that happy he's gone, because in some ways they've lost a
piñata, haven't they?'"

It is going to be hard to find outrage about this because Gonzales himself has been so unpopular. That aside, as I pointed out with Andy Rooney's comments. Hispanics do not have the muscle in the current political environment to create a stir about this.

Sarkozy Sharpens Saber - The Ag - News Summary - News in Brief - TIME:

"French President Nicolas Sarkozy raised the heat under Iran last night when he
called the standoff over Iran's nuclear program 'undoubtedly the most serious
crisis before us today,' and refused to rule out military action to prevent
Tehran getting the bomb. "

Could this be the first steps of France moving towards being a key ally in the Middle East, and a crucial aid in dealing with Iran's weapons program. It would be good to have another player involved, one that that Putin has right, a uni-polar world is not a healthy world.

never have been gay.' Hey, he could be telling the truth -- maybe he's bi. Or,
as many guys on the down low believe -- they are heterosexual men who just have
sex with men from time to time."

While it is more likely that he is gay, it isn't fair to assume that he is just because of this action. Anyone in his position is going to claim that they are not gay. It is bad enough that he has been busted, but to confess to be gay would be to confess this behavior is standard for some people.

A Blog For All: Taliban Agree To Release South Korean Hostages

A Blog For All: Taliban Agree To Release South Korean Hostages:

"The Taliban originally seized 23 South Koreans, but have since killed two of
the hostages and released two others. They had initially demanded the withdrawal
of South Korean troops from the country and the release of prisoners in exchange
for freeing the hostages, but Afghan officials had ruled out any exchange,
saying it would only encourage further kidnappings."

This is great news. It occurs to me that we have been approaching the Taliban as enemies, I wonder what potential there would be for transforming them into a political party and get them involved in the system.

"“My parents gave me a purity ring and talked to me about waiting until I’m
married to have sex. It wasn’t forced; it just made perfect sense. “It’s going
to be awesome to say to my husband that I waited my whole life for him.”"

Didn't Britney used to brag about her virginity, and look at her now. The other reason that you shouldn't come out and say this, is that you are making your sexual life openly a matter of public discussion. Which is fine, when you are controlling the conversation, but that can change very easily.

walked away. Pals of the couple are left scratching their heads and one friend
of Elisha's says they're hoping the two can work it out. 'She's a serial

Sounds like he was a real loser, probably just dating her to get with Paris. She is better off without a person like this in her life.

Andy Rooney Gets Pass for Racial Slur About Hispanic Baseball Players NewsBusters.org:

"My disinterest in baseball as a kid has lasted all my life. I'm still not
interested in the game. I don't watch it on television or follow it in the
newspaper. I know all about Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, but today's baseball stars
are all guys named Rodriguez to me. They're apparently very good but they
haven't caught my interest."

Where's Al Sharpton, if this had been said about black players, if he had said that all the basketball players these days are named Jamal, you would hear from Al. I think that if Andy got a pass from this, it isn't because he is a liberal, so was Imus. It is because there aren't powerful Hispanic groups that will come out, like there are for African-Americans.

PoliPundit.com » “San Francisco hopes to reverse black flight”

PoliPundit.com » “San Francisco hopes to reverse black flight”:

"Wayne Cooksey joined the flight of African-Americans from this city last year
to escape soaring rents and buy a home. Michael Higgenbotham left six years ago
for a safer neighborhood and better schools for his three children. Adell Adams
retired and wanted to downsize but knew her home’s equity wouldn’t go far in a
market where decent condos start at $500,000. Aubrey Lewis was among the first
to go, to nearby Oakland in 1977. “We left because of the housing situation,”
says Lewis, 77. “And that was early. It hasn’t gotten much better.”"

Unless there are measures that are being taken to drive African-Americans from the cities, why should anyone be concerned. At the end of the second world war, a lot of men came back from the war, had some money earned, some went to school, and a lot of those families moved to the suburbs for a better life. This might just be a sign that families in the black community are also developing more income and the ability to move to the suburbs to have a better life. No matter what race you are, having a family in the city is not practical. No one dreams of having a two bedroom apartment for their kids to run around in. This sounds like much a do about nothing.

Picks for the next attorney general. - By Emily Bazelon and Dahlia Lithwick - Slate Magazine:

"The Jimmy Stewart What if the president wants an attorney general who
absolutely reeks of wholesomeness and integrity; someone who is both of the Bush
worldview and also somewhat above it? This is the come-hither for former Deputy
Attorney General James Comey. With his spring testimony about the hospital room
confrontation between Gonzales and his former boss John Ashcroft, Comey has
become the heartthrob of the political and legal left—even though he once gunned
for the death penalty for Zacarias Moussaoui and argued that José Padilla had no
right to a defense lawyer. There is no one who doesn't believe that Comey is a
belt and suspenders Ashcroft conservative. But so what, because there is also no
one who believes that he's a White House doormat. In a sense, that makes Comey
the perfect compromise candidate. Congressional Democrats are so desperately in
love with him that they'd tiptoe around his politics. Conservatives could see a
true believer whose principal conviction is that the independence of the Justice
Department from the White House borders on sacred. As Comey once testified, 'If
that [partisan firings of U.S. attorneys] was going on, it strikes at the core
of what the department is. You can't have assistant U.S. attorneys in there
based on their party affiliation. … You just cannot have that . . . I don't know
any way you can get the department's reputation back about that.' Comey's sweet
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington idealism would be a tonic for the White House; it
would affirm that the old way was the wrong way. "

I don't know if the White House would go for it, he has earned the trust of congress it would seem. This is from an article talking about potential replacements for Gonzo. This is the first time that I have seen or heard the name Comey come up, but I think it would be a great fit.
