Michelle Malkin » Republicans giving less to presidential races

Michelle Malkin » Republicans giving less to presidential races:

"In the past three months, Democratic presidential candidates raised an
estimated $81.2 million compared to about $46.6 million for Republicans.
“It’s not a good sign for the Republicans at this point,” said Jan Baran, a
campaign finance expert and former general counsel of the Republican National
Committee. “They’ve got to be hoping that they can energize their base as well
as independents between now and November of 2008, and if they can’t, they’re
going to be in trouble.”"

I think it is because the field for republicans are so uncertain, is Thompson in, is McCain out?

Crooks and Liars » What if you held a debate and *almost* no one came?

Crooks and Liars » What if you held a debate and *almost* no one came?:

"The one photo the GOP does not want anyone to see was snapped at yesterday’s
NAACP GOP Presidential Candidate Forum. The NAACP invited all 9 Republican
candidates to the forum, but only one showed up: Tom Tancredo. All the
Democratic Presidential hopefuls showed up for their forum."

In the same way that I think that the Democrats made a mistake in not taking part in the debate hosted by Fox News, I think the Republicans are making a mistake by not being a part of this debate. When you choose not to debate you look like you are afraid of the questions that might be asked of you, and you look like a coward. That is one trait that no one wants in a leader.

McCain Campaign Official Busted on Solicting Charge - TalkLeft: The Politics Of Crime:

"An official with the John McCain presidential campaign was arrested for
allegedly soliciting oral sex from a policeman in Florida yesterday. Bob Allen,
a member of the Florida House of Representatives, is one of six Florida
co-chairs for the Arizona Republican senator's 2008 White House bid. "

Could things get any worse for McCain?

Michelle Malkin » Cindy Sheehan kicked off Daily Kos: “I know a lot of you are hostile towards my candidacy.”

Michelle Malkin » Cindy Sheehan kicked off Daily Kos: “I know a lot of you are hostile towards my candidacy.”:

"I can’t post here anymore because my potential run for Congress is not on the
Democratic ticket. I have been deeply grateful for all of your support over
the years. Your love and kindness helped me through lots of sleepless nights at
Camp Casey ‘05. If Speaker Pelosi does her constitutionally mandated duty and I
don’t run, then I can come back and post…"

I don't think this is a big deal. Daily Kos is a blog that is functionally a part of the democratic party. If she is running against Pelosi as an independent, she is not a member of the party any longer. It only makes sense that she would not be a part of the site, if she is running against a democrat.

Right Wing Watch: Romney Hit for Porn

Right Wing Watch: Romney Hit for Porn:

"Ohio’s right-wing stalwart Phil Burress is pointing to Romney’s career on the
board of Marriott hotels, where some travelers reportedly watch porn. “Marriott
is a major pornographer. And even though he may have fought it, everyone on that
board is a hypocrite for presenting themselves as family values when their
hotels offer 70 different types of hardcore pornography.”
“They have to
assume some responsibility. It's their hotels, it's their television sets,” adds
Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council. Perkins says, “[T]here's
some expectation that if an issue is important to you and you portray that issue
as being important now, that when you had an opportunity to address it at a very
practical level that you would have taken steps to do it.”"

I think the weakness here for Romney is going to be less about the fact that the porn is available to hotel guests and more about how he deals with this controversy. The last seven years we have had a president in the White House that has pushed the blame for events off on anyone but himself. Romney can either step up to the plate, and say that he could have done more to prevent porn from being available to guests of the motel or he can blame someone else. I think any attempt to shift the blame is going to be very transparent, and will lose him a lot of respect among voters.

Party Label Disparity in AP Coverage of Crooked Politicians |

Party Label Disparity in AP Coverage of Crooked Politicians

"So let's see, a Democratic former North Carolina state House Speaker gets
sentenced to prison for five years and fined $50,000 for bribery. The Associated
Press covers the story and doesn't give readers his party affiliation until the
6th paragraph.
But a Florida Republican state legislator is only arrested
for solicitation of oral sex from an undercover male police officer, and his
party affiliation is rendered in the second paragraph of the AP story.
That doesn't seem to square with the AP Stylebook, which says party affiliation
mention should be tested by relevance to the story and that in some stories
'[p]arty affiliation is pointless.'"

I think that in stories of crimes, a party affiliation should only be put in the story if the crime involves the party the person is a member of, or is a crime against another party. You couldn't talk about the crimes around Watergate without understand the party affiliations, but you could talk about the crimes of Mark Foley without party affiliation. The people that the subject represent will know what party that person is a member of.

Huckabee Personally Attacks Michael Moore | Air America Radio

Huckabee Personally Attacks Michael Moore Air America Radio:

"Former Arkansas governor and GOP presidential candidate, Michael Huckabee verbally attacked “Sicko” filmmaker Michael Moore, when he told a group of reporters, 'Frankly,
Michael Moore is an example of why the health care system costs so much in this
country. He clearly is one of the reasons that we have a very expensive system.
I know that from my own personal experience. I know how much more my health care
cost when I didn't take care of myself than when I do take care of myself, not
only in terms of doctor visits but regular diseases, illnesses, chronic things
that come up, monthly prescription bills. All of those things have gone
dramatically down since I've taken care of myself and worked to live a healthier

While I have to point out that Huckabee, an also ran candidate for the White House, is clearly using Moore as a way of getting attention for himself, he does have a point. Moore has said that he is working on improving his health, by eating better and getting more exercise. That doesn't of course solve all the problems of the health system, accidents happen to the most careful and the most healthy.

Gabby Babble: Leonardo DiCaprio As Hugh Hefner?

Gabby Babble: Leonardo DiCaprio As Hugh Hefner?:

"'Leo and Hugh have been friends for a long time and Leo has always been
interested in Hugh's life story. Leo thinks it would make a great movie and Hugh
would love Leo to do it - on condition Hugh is alive to see it.'"

Hefner is a natural person to make a movie about, because of the changes that he made in our culture. Like him or hate him he changed the way we think about sex more than anyone since Kinsey. Leo of course is a natural selection to play Hugh, I don't think any other of the big names in Hollywood could pull of the role as good.

"Things did heat up a bit, however, when an elderly neighbor named Michael Silverman, in his 80’s, arrived, armed with a walker and an opening line. “He introduced himself to Paris and said he had a dream about her,” the witness said. “He said he dreamt he was hooking up with her and the cops came in and busted him, and he said he told the cops ‘I’m just following the Bible! London Wants Age Restrictions on Girls Who Walk, Pose for a Living / Jossip

London Wants Age Restrictions on Girls Who Walk, Pose for a Living / Jossip:

"It’s not just Milan trying to make modeling, ahem, safer. (Pause, swallow,
breathe. Modeling can be, like, life threatening.) Now London Fashion Week might
wave g’bye to girls under 16, fearing these young things might develop eating
disorders to maintain the human hangar look the runway requires. "

This sounds like a good idea to me, it doesn't sound healthy to me to have young girls working as models on the cat walk. It doesn't sound healthy to have a bunch of men taking pictures of them either. Modeling is a very sexual job, no matter how you look at it, womyn and their bodies are selling clothes. I think they can wait till they are older.

Hot Air » Blog Archive » Pearl’s father on the moral equivalence of “A Mighty Heart”
Danny’s tragedy demands an end to this logic. There can be no comparison between
those who take pride in the killing of an unarmed journalist and those who vow
to end such acts–no ifs, ands, or buts. Moral relativism died with Daniel Pearl,
in Karachi, on January 31, 2002.
There was a time when drawing moral
symmetries between two sides of every conflict was a mark of original thinking.
Today, with Western intellectuals overextending two-sidedness to reckless
absurdities, it reflects nothing but lazy conformity. What is needed now is for
intellectuals, filmmakers, and the rest of us to resist this dangerous trend and
draw legitimate distinctions where such distinctions are warranted.

I am not going to add anything to this, it sums up well what I have been thinking for years.

Christian extremists disrupt Hindu Senate invocation

Fratboy Bush Unveils Renovated Press Briefing Room

Captain's Quarters

Captain's Quarters:

"Christian activists briefly disrupted a Hindu invocation in the US Senate on
Thursday, marring a historic first for the chamber and showing that
fundamentalism is present and shouting in the US too.
Invited by the Senate to offer Hindu prayers in place of the usual Christian invocation, Rajan Zed, a Hindu priest from Reno, Nevada, had just stepped up to the podium for the landmark occasion when three protesters, said to belong to the Christian Right anti-abortion group
Operation Save America, interrupted by loudly asking for God's forgiveness for
allowing the ''false prayer'' of a Hindu in the Senate chamber.
'Lord Jesus, forgive us father for allowing a prayer of the wicked, which is an abomination
in your sight,' the first protester shouted. 'This is an abomination. We shall
have no other gods before you.'
Democratic Senator Bob Casey, who was serving as the presiding officer for the morning, immediately asked the sergeant-at-arms to restore order. But they continued to protest as they were headed out the door by the marshals, shouting, 'No Lord but Jesus Christ!' and
'There's only one true God!'"

While this is far from being a representative of how all Christians believe and behave it is a big black eye for their faith and for America as a whole. This little stunt of their to belittle an honest man who is following his faith is in some ways as dangerous as the abuses at Abu Grab. When we as a nation ask for followers of Islam to be open and tolerant of other faiths and behave in this manner, it sends a mixed message. They are left wondering if the tolerance that we are preaching is just tolerance for them to convert to the Christian faith, and not tolerance of other faiths.

I hope that most people know that this is not America, but there are those that will use this as a tool of propaganda, just like Abu Grab, to say that America is anti-Islamic.
