a quest to bolster Russian claims to much of the Arctic's oil-and-mineral
wealth."
Canada has it's own interests in claiming the north pole region as it's own. As doubtful as it is, it would be best I think if the whole polar region could be set aside.
Why the fight for such a cold place you ask? Well if global warming turns out to be true, and it is looking more and more like it is - then it won't always be so cold.
