Marginal Revolution: Venezuela fact of the day

...despite Chavez's "revolution for the poor" the Gini coefficient [in Venezuela] has increased from 0.44 in 2000 to 0.48 in 2005.


This statistic comes from The Economist, and shows that inspite of his claims Chavez is helping the poor less than he proclaims. The article talks about how corruption has served to create a new middle class of people who have gotten wealthy from government favors.
