This isn't a terrorism issue, it is a free speech issue. Free speech is important because there is not just one way to see the world. America may view Fadlallah as a terrorist, but that doesn't mean everyone does. When the expression of minority views are suppressed, the groups that hold those views are excluded from the public discussion. Honest communication and understanding cannot happen in an environment of suppressed speech. As groups become more isolated the hate and fear between them grows in the absence of understanding.
Taking action for expressing a view counter to what the government believes should not cost you your job. This was the wrong move for CNN to take, and it sends the message to its viewers and its reporters they are expected to conform to the status quo. Truth doesn't always conform to the status quo. They have effectively limited their reports ability to deliver the news fair and balanced.
