Who Is... United States Republican presidential candidates, 2008

United States Republican presidential candidates, 2008

Sam Brownback, born September 12, 1956, in Kansas, senior Senator from that state. In April 2005, the Associated Press reported that Brownback, who is little known outside his home state, "is using a network of social conservatives and Christian activists to raise his profile" in such battleground states as Iowa and New Hampshire. He is well known for his social and fiscal conservative record, such as opposing abortion and instituting a flat tax alternative to the current IRS Code. He was also instrumental in Congress' bestowing the Congressional Medal upon Mother Teresa. In his own words, "The core of my being is to rebuild the family and renew the culture." On December 4, 2006, Brownback announced that he would form an exploratory committee. On January 20, 2007 Brownback officially announced his candidacy. Of his campaign, Brownback has said, "I'm a son of a farmer from Kansas ... I still think anybody can be president. I don't think you have to show up with $100 million to do it. ... I'm the tortoise in the race. And I don't like how the race starts; I like how it ends up."

Sisyphus Shrugged - oh, for crying out loud.

Sisyphus Shrugged - oh, for crying out loud.:

"The Governor strongly disavowed the statement by the supporter, but that wasn’t
enough for Brownback. He continued to cry about it. The irony is that unlike
Senator Brownback, I have been a Catholic my entire life, as have several of the
senior staff members in the Huckabee campaign. Governor Huckabee enjoys strong
support from Catholics and for good cause. If Senator Brownback wants to start
apologizing for inappropriate things said, perhaps he could pull the “beam out
of his own eye before taking the speck out of someone else’s” by apologizing for
the website ‘Baptists for Brownback’ that states that Hillary Clinton, Barack
Obama, Fred Thompson and others are ‘Hell bound..."

This is a great moment in the middle of a dust up at the bottom of the Republican campaign. I still wonder if they are scrapping to not be in last place, there is little chance that either is going to win.

Brownback Keeps Attacking Mitt-Flop - AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth

Brownback Keeps Attacking Mitt-Flop - AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth:

"Republican Presidential candidate Sam Brownback refuses to back off his attacks on Mitt Romney, saying that the facts on Romney's pro-choice credentials are clear. Normally, Republican spats don't interest me, but this is one to watch for two reasons.

First, Romney is trying to weasel out of positions he stated publicly. Flip-Flopping was the weapon of choice used against John Kerry in 2004, and it was effective because the Republicans never let up on it. It will be interesting to see if it works as well in a Republican primary."

I think Romney has painted himself into a corner on this one. What he has come out and said about it public ally amounts to this. He felt that it was morally wrong, but when he was running the first time, he didn't think laws should be taken to make it illegal. What no one is pointing out, that at this point he is saying that he believes that it is ok for something that is morally wrong to be legal. Later he claims to have changed that stand, which he may have, or may not have. It it the classic problem of a liar who tells you he lied to you yesterday. You don't know if he lied yesterday, or he is lying today. Did he sacrifice his ideas for office yesterday or is he doing that today.

The funny thing is that he is running up against Giuliani who is openly pro-choice.

Crooks and Liars » Things Get Heated Early In ABC GOP Debate - Brownback Goes After Romney On Abortion Flip-Flop

Crooks and Liars » Things Get Heated Early In ABC GOP Debate - Brownback Goes After Romney On Abortion Flip-Flop:

"The GOP Presidential Candidate Debate on this morning’s “This Week” started off with a bang as moderator George Stephanopolis played a robo-call sent out to Iowa voters from Sam Brownback’s campaign which attacks Mitt Romney’s stance on abortion and his claim to be pro-life. Brownback, who is not only pro-life, but whole life, stands behind the message, but Romney fires back claiming the ad was almost completely false and referred to Brownback as “holier than thou.”"

Listening to Mitt answer questions during the debate was a painful experience. With the exception of the right to life, and the war in Iraq - he never could answer the questions that were being asked of him. I don't trust Romney, he is getting slicker and slicker every day.

Sam Brownback: YouChoose '08 Spotlight

Real religious bigotry emerges among the GOP Presidential candidates - AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth

Real religious bigotry emerges among the GOP Presidential candidates - AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth:

"According to the Catholic League, a letter 'is being circulated among evangelicals in Iowa asking them not to split the Christian vote between former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and Kansas Senator Sam Brownback; they are urged to vote for Huckabee, an evangelical, over Brownback, a Roman Catholic.'

The letter was written by Pastor Tim Rude of Walnut Creek Community Church in Windsor Heights, Iowa. A Huckabee volunteer.

He writes that 'Huckabee is an evangelical. He has not learned how to speak to evangelicals;
i.e. Bush 41 & 43. He is one of us. I know Senator Brownback converted to Roman Catholicism in 2002. Frankly, as a recovering Catholic myself, that is all I need to know about his discernment when compared to the Governor's. I don't if this fact is widely known among evangelicals who are supporting Brownback.'"

First of all are these two fighting to not be in last place or something. Other than that I just want to say how shameful this is, shameful for everyone involved in it.
