"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is threatening to take President Bush to
court if he issues a signing statement as a way of sidestepping a carefully
crafted compromise Iraq war spending bill. "
Is this legal?
I speak only for myself as an American, but I think it is high time that both parties end their cheap gotcha politics with each other and work on solving the issues. Does Pelosi think for a moment that a move like this is going to do anything more than divide the nation? Is anyone blind enough to think that an action like this would be taken to help the troops, as opposed to scoring points for the democrats in the fall.
The American government is failing us, and it is time for a change. That change needs to come from the ground. The districts are divided in such a way that each party is driven to the extreme of their party to get votes. The more extreme one party goes to gain votes, the more extreme the other party goes to respond. I think it is instructive to understand how much of this politics comes out of the house, as opposed to the Senate. Senators who have to run for state wide offices are more likely to have to appeal to both parties.
