A Blog For All: St. Rita's Nursing Home Owners Acquitted

A Blog For All: St. Rita's Nursing Home Owners Acquitted:

"After a trial that saw prosecutors put on more than 40 witnesses, including
Gov. Kathleen Blanco, a jury took four hours to acquit the owners of St. Rita's
Nursing Home of 35 counts of negligent homicide and 24 counts of cruelty to the
elderly or infirm when Hurricane Katrina came ashore and the entire area was
flooded out."

Their defense amounted to saying though they were warned about the storm, they had ridden out storms in the past. They laid the blame on the levees, saying that if the levees had not failed, none of them would have died. I understand their argument, but it seems to be based on the idea that just because they were safe in the past, they didn't need to take more caution than they did. That seems like a poor idea, it could be said that just because they were lucky in the past.
