"The race for states to gain more influence in the primaries has intensified in
South Carolina. In a decision that may give a 2007 start to the 2008 primary
race, the state has bumped the Republican primary to January 19th, which may set
off a domino effect that could push the Iowa caucus into the Christmas season."
I think the easiest solution for this is a rotating regional primary. Divide the country into regions, and have every state in that region have their primary on the same day. Then two weeks later the next region has their primary. Every election cycle a different region could be rotated to the front of the list to assure that no state or region got more attention than the others.
