"Osama Bin Laden’s ancestrial homeland is one of the fronts in the war on
terror, and news is out today they have had a noteworthy success in fighting the
al-Qaeda forces in their midsts. From the details in the story it seems the
intel on al-Qaeda is growing and exposing these leaders and cells. We had a
similar success this week in Iraq. My gut tells me more and more Muslims are
turning against al-Qaeda and turning them into authorities. As Iraqis stand up
and swear oaths on the Koran to destroy al-Qaeda, they are setting an example
and sending a message to the broader Muslim world that al-Qaeda’s bloody view of
Islam can be rejected. "
Could it be that the Muslim community in Iraq turning against terror is providing an example to other Muslims around the world that they can also turn on terror. It might be unconnected events, or it could be a signal of a weakening of the centrally controlled terror networks.
If we can promote peace, justice, democracy in Iraq, then it will be easier to share that idea with other peoples in the region.
