Talk Back

Dante News Wire: The Megan Meier Police Report: There Are (Almost) No Words#comments#comments#comments:

"On Wednesday, October 21st, city officials enacted an ordinance designed to
address the public outcry for justice in the Megan Meier tragedy. The six member
Board of Aldermen made Internet harassment a misdemeanor, punishable by up to a
$500 fine and 90 days in jail."

I want to see these people pay just as much as the rest of the world. I have my doubts about laws that are passed after an incident like this. It reminds me of the law that was passed in a town in Oregon to ban road rage, it was passed after the wife of a council member has an encounter with an angry driver.

I wonder why they couldn't be charged with "wreckless endangerment", it could be well argued as adults that they knew the danger, or should have known the danger their actions held. My friend a couple years ago threw a piece of rubber off an over pass into traffic - he wasn't aiming at anything, just a thoughtless toss. The police stopped us and told him he could be charged with "wreckless endangerment".

Talk Back

I was really upset about that. I was surprised to see Jane on his show last evening. Instead of calling Jane a liar - which caused me to pour another quick glass of wine and throw a piece of my pizza at the TV set - he could have said something like, "I think you're misinformed." "I respect your opinion, but I really don't see it this way." "Come on, Jane." Anything but a "LIAR!" I was furious. Let's face it; he has a big flaw. For all his experience, education, he is rude. It's his way or no way. I’m on his side of the fence most of the time, but sometimes I'd like to shove a pacifier in his mouth. He just ain’t got no finesse. When you think about it, why does he even have guests on his show since he constantly interrupts them causing we, the viewers, not to understand what the guest is saying?Wow! Hold on! I just had an epiphany! I’ve got it! I'm a genius. He should interview himself. That’s it. He should ask the questions, then put on a mustache and answer himself. However, I'll bet anyone a bottle of wine and a pizza, he'll interrupt himself. He might even call himself a liar! You know, like, get it out of his system.Jane, I've started reading more of your articles. We’re about 50/50, which is cool, I like to see things from different points of view. Bernie, I agree with you quite a bit. I bought one of your books a while back. So Bill won't feel too bad about my advice on a better disposition, I’ll cop out. I’ll confess…I graduated high school with 5 D's. Obviously, I have no credentials to criticize, except having lived a long time and consider myself an expert on getting along with people. Can you imagine, me, with my so-called lack of education, scolding someone who went to Harvard? I think it was Harvard. How cheeky of me. You're actually a nice guy, Bill. You should buy some wine and pizza and really watch yourself. In fact, get your self a director. Then again, why? You wouldn’t listen to him anyhow. Come on, man, grow up. We love you, but stop scrapping your fingernails on the blackboard….

First of all thank you for your great comment.

Second of all, Bill O'Reilly's show for the most part is less focused on an actual discussion of facts and having a real debate, than it is about O'Reilly having a platform to promote his ideas from. You are right about how he treats his guests, and the thing that he doesn't understand is how it turns his viewers against him, and cause them to side with the guests.

Third, there is a difference between being educated and being smart. There are lots of educated people who are not that smart, and there are lots of smart people who just never got that "education". Don't take yourself, or your brain for granted just because you learned about life from life and not from books.

Thank you again for reading and leaving a comment. (PS Pizza makes me hungry)

Talk Back

Gravel is serious unlike your trivial opinion about him and other people's perspectives of him (i.e. the video art piece with Gravel dropping a rock in the SF lake).

Please be respectful of someone who has your best interests as their inspiration and driving force. Gravel is fighting for our country's ultimate survival and revival. Without people like Gravel, fighting and taking action for truth, diversity, and unification of people in this country and around the world, we will end up falling further into a darkness that none of even WANT to imagine.

Thank you for your willingness to listen. I realize I am responding out of emotion but I feel I have brought simple truths to light.

First of all, thank you for your comment.

Second you are right that Gravel is a serious candidate, if you mean that he is a serious person who is running for the White House. Sadly if you mean he has a serious chance, I would have to disagree with you. I say this not as a slight against Gravel, the reality is that he is behind in the polls and I don't see him over coming Clinton or Obama for the nomination.

I heard him explain the ad, and the way he explained it shows that it was a metaphor and that it contained a lot of meaning. Sadly Americans aren't looking for metaphors, and they are not looking for a lot of meaning in a presidential candidate.

As for your response, it was perfectly logical and though you say it was done emotionally, it felt strong and thought out.

In the spirit of debate and information

I admit that I seem to have under estimated the support that Ron Paul seems to have in the general population. With that in mind I am extending an offer to Ron Paul supporters, and to all other presidential candidate supporters. If you e-mail me an essay, introducing your candidate, and the ideas that you think should be supported I will publish it on my blog without editing it at all. I am going to do some research myself on Mr. Paul, but in the end I think the best information comes from supporters. You can e-mail that to TheSanePoet@wildmail.com . Thank you.

When all the 2nd quarter fundraising numbers are published (by July 15), I think
you'll find that Ron Paul raised more money second quarter than all bu the top
three candidates, and has more cash on hand than all but the top two.

Paul has a quite a ways to go to catch up with the top media-annointed
candidates, but he is out-fundriaising all the other candidates.

Is he going to have enough to take on the Democrats though? You might be right about those numbers, and I will watch them. Part of my scepticism about Ron Paul is that I don't see his appeal to the broader audience. He is against the war, which is something that puts him in line with what polls say Americans believe. Outside of that, I don't know that he has done a good job presenting himself to America. This is a very crowded, and very loud and dirty campaign season, I think he needs to jump into the fray a little more.

The real scandal is Fox News Corp trying smear Ron Paul by
trying to link Congressman Paul to so-called groups. The truth, which is apparent
to anyone that has read any of Dr. Paul's OP-eds, speeches and/or Congressional
Record is that he has never made any reference any conspiracy theories. Paul's
positions and statements are pretty clear, look them up yourself. But, having
said all that, Ron Paul isn't going to demonize people that hold opinions that
aren't in the mainstream or widely accepted. He's going to shake their hand, a
hear what they have to say. It's called being polite and being a statesman. The
idea of freedom crosses many boundaries.

Well that is just how Fox operates and you are right that they are creating a strawman argument to defeat what he is saying. The thing is I don't even think that they need to do that. I think that his argument as I understand it is flawed, that if we never had taken action in the middle east, we would never have been attacked. It is far too simplistic to even suggest we could have avoided being involved in the region. We have made bad choices in the region, but I don't think that is the sole reason that the terrorists are attacking us.

I was just over at Highbrid Nation and they have been doing some interesting
coverage of the Mumia case. Like them I also have mixed feeling on the case. I
don't to see any man executed but just because he should not be executed does
that mean that he wasn't wrong. I don't know.

I am torn about the Death Penalty (GIVE EM THE DP). Hey who let Nancy Grace in here?

What is the point of the DP? Is it a form of punishment? Is it a way of saying that you did this crime to someone and for that you deserve to die? Is it a deterrent? Is it population control for prisons? Is it anything more than just revenge, and is revenge ok? (GIVE EM THE DP) Thanks Nancy...

I have a hard time because this in an issue where logic tells you one thing. That it doesn't prevent crime and it doesn't solve the original crime. On the other hand emotionally I can see how if someone committed a crime like that against someone I care about I would want them dead. There are times when I don't know if a person deserves to live for crimes that they have done. That if they sit in jail, one day they might escape or be released, and that they will be taken care of by the tax payers that they violated.
